Cheap gateway for home and small businesses

Pros

Cheap
Small
Reliable
Cons
No multi-SIP accounts on a single line
Summary
I really like this product as much as my old SPA-3102 and SPA 2102. The configuration between the Cisco SPA-122 and the older Linksys SPA-2102 are near identical. The dial plan string allow to do almost anything you want with that VOIP gateway. For example you can redirect 0 to a free 411 service like the one from Google.
The SPA-122 can be used like a router also. That mean, there is Internet and Ethernet ports. You could plug a switch in the Ethernet port to use the router functionality for all your home computer for a cheap price.
This is also a small business product. You can have an internet network and redirect calls from one phone to the others. You can also configure transfers to external phones like your cell phone. It's not the best product on the market, but it is a good device for an affordable price with more options than many gateways in that price range. Pros

small form factor
cheap
Cons
router cant handle high throughput
Summary
I have found that unless these units are put into bridge mode, the WAN port cannot handle more than 18-20Mbps throughput. I have also found that the phone ports go bad after a year or so, sometimes sooner. I dont feel this is a solid replacement to the old SPA2102 as it was designed to be.

Pros

- easy to setup
- low cost
Cons
- no google voice support
Summary
Mine came with and older 1.3 firmware. I had to upgrade firmware.
It was easy to setup, i followed the freephoneline instruction and another guide by Stan Chia blog site. It was working right away.
Only thing is there are so many configuration options that I dont understand. I left them default but It would be great if someone writes a guide on optimizing all those settings.

Pros

Reliable connection. The security on accessing the configuration WEB page has improved. Configuration file could be saved externally.
Cons
New models has changed to limit the first time configuration has to be done over the LAN port in the device.
Summary
This device has good compatibility on different ISPs. The newer model is more secure and configuration file could be saved externally.

Pros

works
Cons
interface could be simpler
Summary
bought this to switch to VoIP. Setup is easy but if you are not familiar with VoIP you might have to dig a little to find out how to.

Pros

Looks very stable.
Cons
Missing the ability to configure multiple SIP accounts on one phone line (as OBI devices).
Summary
I have configured it to work in front of the router, behind of the router, with open ports and without open ports. All configurations works well and looks stable.

Pros

Reliable, great voice quality
Cons
Could have been nice if there were a detailed user manual. Router feature works horribly
Summary
Once setup, its a no worry device you just leave on. The voice quality is great and there's a lot to customize. One problem is you can't rely on this as a router if your connection speed is faster than 18-19mbps because that's the most speed that will come out of the router port. For most users, I recommend getting the SPA112 to save money while getting rid of the useless router feature from this ATA

Pros

Small form factor, very stable
Cons
Admin control panel lets you break things very easily - not for beginners
Summary
This is a nice, small ATA that gets the job done for home use. It's all you need to drop  your telco (Shaw/Telus/Bell/etc) and use VOIP.

For fifty bucks in hardware I was able to drop  my phone service from $30/mo down to $0.99/mo (plus usage) with voip.ms, but any VOIP provider will work and will usually provide you exact configuration instructions for your ATA.

This is definitely a cheap, residential/SOHO ATA, so don't expect a lot in the way of advanced VOIP features.

For stability in small setups this is ideal.

Pros

decent price on sale, built in router, 2 phone ports
Cons
built in router
Summary
good ata, works well with FPL type services. built in router is kinda pointless, and make sure you manually set the DNS when in bridge mode or it wont connect/register. overall, does the job well.
