Very Efficient, Cool at stock clocks, Easy Overclocking
|
Once overclocked temps go through the roof
|
Upgraded to this from a i7 920 q 4.2ghz and raw performance was very little difference, but power draw was almost 300 watts difference and temps were way down so was very worth the purchase.

Hyper-Threading Unlocked for O/C Decent sale prices
|
Luck of the draw O/C performance Keeping it cool with the stock heatsink
|
Very happy with my purchase, great for running multiple editing programs, awesome for gaming and it was on sale :D
Was time for a new machine, wanted to do a lot more gaming with 1440p res and the fm2 build I'd been using for a few years wasn't going to cut it.
Grabbed the 4770K, Asus Z97I-plus, a Plextor M.2 ssd, 16Gb of Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 ram, 750W EVGA SuperNova G2 PSU and an EVGA GTX 780 Classified to throw in an ITX Prodigy Case I already had. I am stunned at all of the eye candy I was missing on consoles and the editing performance I thought was adequate was a snails pace compared to this new rig.

Expensive, for gaming get a i5 4670k or i5 4690k
|
This is a good processor for gaming and video rendering/editting.

Fast, hyper-threading, great single-core performance
|
Pricey, bad "heatsink"

I had an FX-8350 z 4,8Ghz that was not really a big difference from my older Phenom II X6 z 4,2Ghz. So, I decided to sell it with its motherboard and grab myself the lastest Intel Core-i7 Haswell from Intel last August.
Intel Core i7-4770k z 4,4Ghz with Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H
Was it a good swap? yes; is it worth the money? not really; would I do it again? yes.
While I find no difference between my FX and this i7 on day-to-day task/photoshop/programming/VMs & cie (one day I'll pay myself an Intel hexa/octo core...), the biggest difference was in older or low-multithreaded games (ME, SC2, Civ V).
So, my only problem with this chip is its price (it's not worth 350$ IMO) and its temperature. At 4,4Ghz z 1,2V I'm pretty I got a good chip, but even with an H100i with Gentle Typhoons, this is the max I'll go (82C during Aida64 stress run). It's sad as I think a delid could make it way cooler (won't do that on a 350$ chip though ;). I doubt there's a difference between 4,4-4,9Ghz for day-to-day usage, but I like my benchmarks!

Smoking fast!!!
|
none so far, a little pricy
|
I build a new system every 5-6 years and I normally look for the best value for money that will last me into the 6 year period. This processor seems up to the task. Very snappy!

-Hyperthreading -Super fast -Low Power
|
-High price -Didn't overclock well (or maybe it was just me)
|
Previously I was using an AM3 motherboard along with an FX-8350 overclocked to 4.4 GHz. It all seemed good, but having that power distributed among 8 cores isn't as good as having just as much power distributed among 4 cores. Especially when an application I was trying to run only used 4 cores.
So I picked up this processor and got the clock to 4.3 GHz before deciding that was good enough. Unfortunately I had to put the voltage at 1.270V in order to make it stable with synthetic stress testing. I've read people doing that much at 1.20V. Anyways, temperatures don't go over 75 C (when stressing) with my Corsair H100i and never go above 55 C otherwise.
A very good part is that I see only 120 watts power being used at idle rather than the 230 watts my AMD processor was using. Other than the board and CPU my setup is the same.
I probably wouldn't have gotten this coming from a 3770K or even a 3570K, but since I was switching from AMD I got the latest.

-runs fine -mine overclocks to 4.5ghz so i guess i am lucky
|
-not much of an upgrade compared to ivy bridge -runs hot as hell -many chips dont overclock much (ie 4.1ghz) generally wouldnt waste my time if it were of that odds
|
Its a okay CPU. its not much of an upgrade but if you are coming from gulftown there is a rather large performance gain
