Experience: 3 Months

Very inexpensive when on sale Verified OwnerVerified Owner

easy to set up
does the job
not the highest build quality
good for backup of photos
set up was easy but i'm a tech. Can understand how novice users may have a hard time

Did not break the bank and was good not for advanced power users who want features beyond a file hosting service (buy a qnap)

Experience: 2 Months

Working fine, as expected Verified OwnerVerified Owner

Relatively fast. Set-up & re-formating HD with existing data is unexpectedly straight in view of other earlier reviews, albeit time-consuming (completed with Thecus N2310 over-night without "human intervention". I am not a "technical person" when it comes to PC technology! Good buy for the price of $99 as I also own two other NAS units as well. Use the N2310 for shared storage & extra B/U in the office
Not much complain as I have limited expectations from an inexpensive & consumer-type NAS unit like N2310 (use for shared storage in s small office for 5 users & B/U) relatively to my other NAS units.
Good buy for specific price & expectations. You get what you paid for!!!!

Experience: 2 years

work weel used advance setting
not for non initiate
good for the price. customer service is good with thecus, even in french!!!

Experience: 60 Days

Replaced Windows Home Server 2011 Verified OwnerVerified Owner

Installing the apps were easy, especially compared to Home Server 2011. Web interface is very basic, but customizable.
with all the different sharing options, it could have came with some basic instructions.
Glad I switched, takes up very little room, fan runs at a consistent speed, would recommend buying one.

Experience: 3 Years

Bought another one

I use mine for home and just for storage backup. I've had mine for 3 years and been reliable and have had no issues with it. I use it to sync my files on the fly.
Don't know of any. I haven't tried setting it up with all the fancy tec stuff,
At the time I bought it was easy to set up, created some files and has been working all along.

Experience: 7 Weeks

Fast performance and great features (when it works)
1. Documentation is incomplete or incorrect; some examples: a. documentation says that blue LED flashes until unit boots up but in fact, this LED keeps flashing until the initial install is completed; b. initial install process must use the "Thecus Intelligent NAS" multicast-based application but this isn't well documented so MANY users are having problems (since many things can limit propagation of multicasts, like other installed software, LAN setup, use of WiFi, etc); c. virtually ALL apps are poorly documented
2. Cooling fan is NOT "whisper" quiet - isn't variable speed
3. Costs extra to use this as a DLNA server (MiniDLNA doesn't work and Twonky app is only a "30-day trial" so must buy $20 USD lic key - see Summary comments)
4. NO CANADIAN support - must deal with California or Taiwan where the time zone difference can severely limit your interactions; RMA must be to USA address ONLY and YOU pay to ship it, so extra hassle and costs there
5. Under-engineered; some examples: a. no provision to alter  default workgroup name of WORKGROUP; b. some web UI functions are browser-dependent - e.g. no "Apply" button visible in IE11 when configuring Samba/CIFS, but works in Chrome; c. when connected with a Windows Share, randomly drops network connection when writing large files to the NAS, especially sensitive with long file names
... the last 2 were "deal breakers" for me
- spent weeks dealing with Thecus eSupport in Taiwan; support ticket history is 15 pages of PDF
- because Thecus support insisted it was a h/w issue (even though I still think it's a bug in their Samba/CIFS implementation), I took my original unit back to NCIX and had to wait for a replacement to be shipped from the warehouse
- when the 2nd unit proved to have the same symptoms, I insisted they test a 3rd one in California and ship it to my local NCIX
- I again returned to the store to exchange the 2nd unit for the 3rd one, but alas, it ALSO exhibited the same network connection problems while writing large files; check the Thecus forums for others reporting the same issue
- finally ditched it in favour of a QNAP TS-212-E (this uses Twonky server but license is bundled, so unlike Thecus, no extra cost)
- be warned: many Thecus provided apps are "trial" versions (limited functionality or usage time); many of those that aren't, are buggy to the extent of not fulfilling its core function (e.g. MiniDLNA is supposedly free & full featured, but it won't properly serve videos in the N2310's PPC implementation); Thecus forums are rife with user problems implementing another DLNA alternative, Serviio; Twonky works well but costs extra (as mentioned)
- I invested 7 weeks trying to get this product to work ... KUDOS to Thecus and NCIX for allowing me to return this for full credit (that's why I gave 2 stars - else, 1)
- if you buy this, count on spending a LOT of time on the Thecus community forums, where (except for Stephane "Qoolbox") you'll get more help from other users than Thecus staff ... I'm at 70 posts, since Feb 7/14

Experience: 1 Months

Low Power
Limited Apps
Slightly under-powered
I bought this to temporarily replace my media server while I rebuild the software on it. It hit all the checkmarks for what I required: Web interface, ran Plex, Sickbeard, Couchpotato, Transmission, remote(web, phone, tablet) access. Ran into app shortages (installing/running Sickbeard and Couchpotato were a challange) and minor irritants, as the Thecus N2310 is still fairly new, and has different processor/OS. Plex does not like to run 1080p video for anymore than 7-8 mins. Whether this is Plex or the unit maxing out, I haven't determined yet. Every other type of video is fine. The web interface can be very slow and uninformative while doing a requested action. Plan on getting your hands dirty on the command line if you ask to do more than use this as plain file server/ NAS device. Google is your friend if you have problems, and there seems to be fairly decent community support.
