I take this hdd because all baracuda new serie drive have some clicky noise. This serie are before the new serie, run great no click, great performance. The only thing anoying its the thickness of the drive.

- Good price for the size - Warranty is ok - Well built (solid)
|
- Not the best performance

It is a good stockage SATA hard drive.
It is used in a DVR for surveillance camera system. 1To is pretty enough of filming depending on the quality
Would recommend for stockage, not for a system drive.

Speed Performance Noise
|
None

I bought two of these for $50 a piece and have not looked back. They are - in my opinion - better than Western Digital drives. I've always gone with WD in the past but my last few drives really crapped out in performance and ended up getting noisy within a year. Not to mention the few previous drives I owned from WD did not support APM (an important feature in my mind).

Cheap Storage
|
None found yet
|
Need 4x for a NAS. Kind of a catch 22 though since I want preformance, but don't need the capacity since their total capacity is combined inside the NAS. The only way to get better performance is to get larger capacity. SSDs are overkill and would be bottlenecked by the NAS. So these drives are a compromise, and at least they were relatively cheap on boxing day at 60$ a pop.
They've been solid for 3 months so far, no complaints with respect to performance.

I got this as a storage drive to supplement a ssd drive. It is working well and I hope I get a long life out of it. I have bought seagate drives for a long time and they seem to be good for about 4 years before crapping out. Too bad they don't have as good a warranty as they used to.

7200.12 drive brings back memories of 7200.11 series
|
I bought this drive expecting an older model drive that would be cheaper. That's what I got. It's still working after two months and hopefully will stay reliable. These seem to run hotter than the 7200.14 series but that's just from handling the drives, I haven't recorded actual temperatures.

-Only con of a hard drive is life ... Have only been using these for about one month and no problems as of yet
|
This is a great product to pick up when it comes on sale. I picked it up for a budget build on Black Friday for $50. So far no complaints from the user (a family member). If purchasing at regular price, however, I would suggest getting the 64Mb cache version of this 1Tb hard drive for $5 more.

This is a good choice for people who don't want to pay for an SSD. Its not as a fast as a WD Caviar Black but has (had? price have increased due to shortages) a better cost per GB.

Excessive clicking noise and both hard drives were dead. Packaging was okay but the box was too large for the two hard drives and would've been bouncing around inside the box. First order from NCIX and received no hard drives in working condition. Not great.

Well, I've only had them for three days, so barring a DOA its pretty hard to have much in the way of cons. That is the problem with reviews, especially for hard drives - the products are always new and testing is limited to a short time frame. While people may be concerned with noise, heat and performance, most are at least equally concerned with reliability since they usually plan on using their drives for years. Well, this one certainly isn't the fastest drive, but I would be surprised if most people expected it to be. It has two platters and only 32 MB of cache compared, for example, to the slightly more expensive single platter, 64 MB cache sibling Seagate offers.
I got two of these drives on sale for about fifty bucks apiece, which is a pretty decent deal these days, and since they were destined for my backup server, raw speed wasn't the biggest issue. I do hope that they last, but, unless they decide to fail at the same time as one of the drives I've backed up to them, even that won't be critical. They both made it through full formats (ugh!) okay, so here's hoping.
Would I reall buy again? Time will tell. I can only give them four stars for now under the circumstances, not because I have any problems with the drives, but because I have no good way of knowing if I will going forward.

Have owned several Seagate Baraccuda's. Not sure why I keep buying them, because they seem to die at around the 3 year mark.
With SSD's out, these are great for additional storage/backup considering the amount of GB you get for the price.

I have never had issues with seagate drives, they run well for their price. The readwrite speed is noticably slower compared to a black drive, but considering the price, its the best choice for storage.

Prices as well as other drives at the time had a 5 year warranty. The retail boxed versions still do. Have ran rather well in my 6 drive raid 5 setup 24/7 for 3+ years with rather heavy use and there not designed to do this.
|
They do fail three of the drives have failed. They did this quite slowly and smart did let me know first. All three also died within 3 months of each other. Still under the warranty.
|
For general usage they seem alright. Heavy usage does seem to kill them quicker. Im sure some are just bad out of the box but lots of computer stuff is that way. If using for special setup should probably use a enterprise rated drive.

- Very cheap (was $55 pricematched) - Big (1TB of storage is a lot) - Really fast (60 - 130 MB/s transfer rates in HD Tune, 240 MB/s burst rate)
|
- I surface scan tested the drive in Victoria and it had some sectors at the ~200ms range.
|
So far, the drive has been pretty good. I really like how fast it is compared to older IDE and SATA hard drives. The transfer rates on this drive are quite good.
