WinTV-HVR-1600 brings over-the-air high definition ATSC digital TV, clear QAM digital cable TV and analog cable TV to your PC. Watch and record TV in a window or full screen using high quality MPEG-2.
Clear QAM TV channels are unencrypted digital TV channels broadcast by your local cable operator. Many cable operators in North America are transmitting the high definition ATSC channels on their cable networks. They also broadcast the basic cable channels in using clear QAM. You can use the WinTV v6 application to watch and record these channels.
ATSC digital TV is the over-the-air HD digital TV for North America. ATSC digital TV typically requires an antenna for reception, and is currently broadcast in 200 cities, with over 1500 TV stations. ATSC broadcast s range in resolution from standard definition up to the high definition 1080i format. The WinTV-HVR can be used to watch and record all ATSC formats. Note: ATSC digital TV is NOT digital cable TV or digital satellite TV. The WinTV-HVR-1600 cannot receive digital satellite TV.

Digital Clear QAM features If you are using digital cable which broadcast s digital cable channels "in the clear" (clear QAM), you can receive these QAM channels with the new WinTV v6 application. Note: not all cable TV networks broadcast clear QAM channels Note: Vista Media Center does not currently support clear QAM channels. To watch clear QAM channels, you should use the Hauppauge WinTV v6 application.
Digital ATSC HD TV features
ATSC over-the-air digital TV tuner built-in. Supports all ATSC formats, up to the high definition 1080i format!
Record ATSC digital TV to your PC's hard disk using high quality MPEG-2. TV recordings will typically consume 5 Gb of disk space per hour for ATSC high definition.
Analog TV features
125 channel cable ready TV tuner built-in. With dbx-TV stereo decoder, for great TV sound.
Composite/S-Video and audio inputs, for cable or satellite set top boxes or VCRs.
Record TV shows to your PC's hard disk using the built-in high quality hardware MPEG-2 encoder. While recording, the hardware encoder does all the work so your PC continues to run at full speed! 1-2 Gigabytes of disk is used per hour of recorded video.

The installation process went very smoothly and the card works as stated. I have not tried the record functions but i assume that they would work just fine.

Install was easy and the card works well after installing updated drivers. This replaces my ATI Tv Wonder, which I used faithfully for 4 years. So far this is a good replacement. Great price and I recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive tv tuner card for an older system.

I replaced my old Leadtek Winfast 2000 deluxe to hopefully improve on the picture quality of my Expressvu TV. It did just that, improving the picture quality by a large margin, so I'm very satisfied.
I'm using the WinTV software that came with the card, but it's not near as good/convenient to use as the WinFast that I've been using for years. Picture is very good, but it's not very customizable and you end up with a large menu/control panel on the left side. I prefer to see just the screen size with the control panel as a popup. I tried DScaler but couldn't seem to get the sound in sync.

I had a 10-year-old AIMSlabs Video Highway Extreme 98 that I've been using for a long time with MacGyver'd drivers and software. My latest build is a dual-boot system with XP Pro x86 and Vista Ultimate x64, and I knew Vista x64 would not like my jury rigged TV tuner card. So after 10 loyal years of servitude, I decided to replace my trusty VHX98. Besides, I figured the PC TV tuning technology must have improved quite a bit in that time.
Got this unit and tested it with mixed results. The PVR function worked fine but the 2 second delay drove me nuts (there is another TV in the room). The picture quality was good (didn't test the HD or digital input). The dual tuners is a bonus but I don't have digital to test.
