Pros
-Great performance
-Good value
Cons
-None
Summary
Gaming, video and photo work, this processor can handle anything. For a long time, this was the best deal for the X58 platform and it's no slouch, even 4+ years after release.

Pros
Very overclockable
Good bang for the buck
Cons
None, really
Summary
I bought this CPU on sale, and with its overclockability, it made for a great purchase. I'm currently running it at 4.2GHz with water cooling, and no stability issues whatsoever. It does tend to draw quite a bit of extra power when under full load overclocked, though (100 Watts over idle), so you need to make sure you have a power supply to handle it.

Pros
High performance. Cheap price.
Cons
Weak fan cooling and thermal paste, no overclocking with these stuff.
Summary
Good price, high performance. I get 7.5/7.9 from Windows Experience Index. The i7 920 is soo fast! The content include fan cooling with thermal paste, which is enough to run it normally. Good stuff!

Pros
good OC
great performance
Cons

Summary
love this cpu... good performance for the money... OC's easily to 4.5ghz... got it price matched for 279... was D0 stepping if anyone else was wondering what was being sold recently

Pros
Great Performance
Cheaper than other i7s
Great overclocking
Cons
Outdated by the i7 930 now
Stock cooler is very so-so
Summary
Great CPU, performance is excellent, can be overclocked by a LOT with the right set up. Liquid OC goes even further. The only downsides to the i7 920 is that it runs HOT so make sure that you have ample airflow and a good cooler or you'll be frying your CPU's lifespan.

Pros
amazingly fast
8 threads
easy overclock
Cons
can run hot
not the cheapest cpu
Summary
This processor does everything with ease. Triple channel memory means you can easily run 6GB. But, may not be the best choice for future upgrades, as SandyBridge will most likely be on another socket.

Pros
CPU easily overclocked to 4.2GHZ on the Asus P6T V2. The multiplier selection allows a setting of 21. When Setting the BCLK to 200, you are at 4.2GHZ, rock solid.

Minor mods to the CPU Core Voltage (1.35) and NB, as well as setting the CPU Diff Amplitude to 800mV and the QPI/DRAM to 1.25 took care of business. Corsair 12GB DDR3 Memory 3X12G1600C9 G kit runs at 1600MHZ at 4.0 and a tad more at 4.2. Idle temps with my new Zalman 9900A are 41 degrees c for CPU and 38 degrees c for MB chipset.

I used a new Antec P183 case, lots of air flow and filters on each external expansion slot as well as the two filter panel/doors.

Power supply is the Corsair 750. The CPU at stock speeds, along with the monitor and peripherals + the router use only 150 watts at idle! Impressive as that was what my older E6600 Core 2 Duo running at 3.25GHZ used. This board, processor and memory smoke my old setup. A 50-60 percent gain in overclocking with air cooling is almost unheard of.
Cons
None

Summary
Don't bother buying the 930, 50, 60, and 975, the 920 OC's to their speeds and beyond. QPI is the only limiter. Tone down the CPU speed and QPI and the Corsair mem kit will run at 2.0-2.23GHZ. That is some serious speed on the mem bus. And the ram is cool as room temp.

Pros
Great bang for your buck CPU. Highly overclockable and stable (D0 stepping) on air cooling.
Cons
Still expensive compared to AMD offerings. X58 mobos and DDR3 are expensive!
Summary
I know I didn't need all this power but having a quad-core CPU that can do video encoding and image editing at a fast rate (which I do from time to time) along with gaming is such a relief. Easily eats up my old Athlon X2.

Best CPU you can get for an Intel "budget" build.

Pros
+Fast
+8 Threads
+Triple channel memory
+Overclocks well with the right board and cooling
Cons
-Turbo speed sucks(+1 for all cores, +2 for 1 core) when you look at the i5
Summary
This is a great CPU of you want to get triple channel memory and lots of features. Overclocking is great on this as well. LGA 1366 is also a fairly good upgrade path for 6 and maybe 8 core cpus in the future.
The down side is you pay a fair bit more for little improvement over some of the 1156 counterparts.
Still highly recommended.

Pros
- Great overclocker (3.6ghz - 3.8ghz turbo with stock voltage)
- Huge jump in performance in games
Cons
- Expensive to upgrade to LGA1366 mobo and cpu
Summary
A great upgrade that will make your computer a lot more powerful in games. I saw my fps almost double in Far Cry 2 and Resident Evil 5 after upgrading from a Quad Q6600. It runs cool and is very powerful, one of the best upgrade for gaming.

Comment: So we get back to my original question: "Is the i7 all hype?" Looking at the physical architectural differences between the i7 and the Core 2 series, Intel has made some significant changes in their new processor line. The Nehalem is not just a warmed-over Core 2 Quad, there are enough changes in th
