Summary
I been using the TRUE's for all my builds for while now and they been great. Last couple of weeks I been playing around with a new cooler just as a test, the Coolermaster V10. Wasn't thinking it was going be much better then a TRUE with push/pull fans, if at all. The 1st V10 press reviews were ho hum on its performance. But they were tested on 775 systems with relatively cool running C2D and C2Q cpu's.

Later reviews had the cooler installed on hot running x58/i7 systems. At the stock settings, the results were again nothing to crow about when compared to the TRUE's or any of the other top tower coolers.

Heres the kicker. OC a hot running x58/i7 (maybe even a C2Q) and thats when the TEC on the Coolermaster shows its magic. The temps hit a certain level and stays there when the cores max at 100%. It does not go hotter (TEC?) or cooler, it just does not fluctuate. In my case hottest core maxed at ~67C with an i7-920 at 3.9 running OCCT for 15 Min's with all threads activated at 99%-100% for all 4 cores/8 threads. With the TRUE push/pull the hottest core was ~70-72c. Rem the OCCT test program really tress the CPU/cores. My system will run at 4ghz but will not complete the OCCT test at 4ghz tho .

I thght it would take hell freezing over for me to swap out my TRUE push/pull setup for another cooler on my own gaming system. But I now use the V10. Added benefit is that the V10 in its design also cools the ram and other mobo components just a like a top down cooler. My system temp stay at ~50c while before they hovered at ~55-60c (eVGA x58 3 Way SLI mobo) when stressed, idles at ~26-29c. It also works like a tower cooler since it has a tower config along with its top down part, two 120mm fans do the active cooling. The TEC is mounted on the side (front?), not on the cooler base and attached via heat pipes from the main base and its only active when the temps hit a certain level (temp ?).

The caveats about the V10 are

1) price
2) weight (2+lbs).
3) size, need a large case to house it.(installed in CM HAF 932 case)
4) need a hot running CPU to get any benefits over conventional coolers.
5) water cooling at 2x price may/prob beat it.
6) need a dedicated molex connection with no other attached items from PSU for the TEC cooler.
7) if you are not OCing then just stick with the INTEL cooler. This applies to all after market coolers.
8) well its not a 100% air cooler but a hybrid with the TEC.

I didn't connect the fans to the mobo even tho it had a 4pin PWM connector. I used it with a fan controller. Tests were done with the fans at ~1900rpms since the fan controller will not max the fans 2400rpms rating. I did try the PWM connection auto control on the mobo to see if it will reduce the noise but with my setup it didn't matter if the fans were running at their min 800rpms or max'd out. Other fans in my system drowned out the cooler fans anyway so I just use the fan controller instead.

At its price, is it that much better then what a TRUE cost, even with two fans. Is it for every one, well it all depends on if you want that extra 3-5c cooling and is willing to pay the price for it.

ADD: does it allow better OCing as compared with other aftermarket coolers, maybe or maybe not. There are too many items on the x58 setups that will influence the OCing besides CPU temps .

so at stock CPU speed the True 120 beat the V10 by a little
with a mild overclock (160Bclk) they tied
with high overclock (200Bclk) and a fair bit voltage the V10 starts to pull away (only by a little)

all in all I am happy with the V10, as I price matched it to be very close $ to the True
and I like the looks
not a bad cooler, not an amazing cooler (anything that keeps up with the True is decent)

btw
ran P95 for 15min to get these temps

I should add the True had 2 fans in push/pull config, the stock one then I added a 2nd 120mm Antec

all in all its great, if u like the looks buy it, if not don't it, it will only tie, or beat the True 120 by a couple degrees. All this was in a massive Mozart TX with 16 Fans for V10 and 20+ fans with True 120

Summary
Put together a new i7 rig and bought this because of the WOW factor. Quite heavy; however, the bracket works extremely well. Plenty of room between the RAM cooling and my Corsair Dominator. Not much time to fully wear it in as I was waiting a week for GPU and RAM.

Have only overclocked the 920 to 3.4 so far, wanted to see what I could do on stock voltages. Draw was 147W on the V10, so plenty of room left on the V10 as it is 200+W. Temps read 30-53 celcius, but the 53 is on core 3 only as it seems to always read about 3-5 degrees more than the other cores. Even after re-seating the V10 a second time and applying new paste. On stock speeds it ranges from 28-43 degrees depending on load.

I like it, the thermaltake 120 will most likely provide better air cpu cooling, but I wanted cooling for both my cpu and memory and this fits the specs. Nice red glow is faint and matches the front fan on the HAF.

Gigabyte Extreme x58 w/SilentHeatPipe on (will have to remove when I go SLI w/physX card so that soundcard will have a slot)
