Pros
- Small Size
- Quiet
- Reliable
- Intuitive Setup
- Web Access
- Individual User Controls
- Good Price
Cons
- Slightly Slow Control Panel
- Slow file transfer rates
- Pretty slow even on wired Gigabit LAN
Summary
I bought this unit to serve as a small business file server - both for local file storage and as an easy way to make files available to clients. The buffalo webaccess portal (for accessing files remotely) is pretty slick but not very fast in responding to commands. The control panel takes a while to get anything done (needs to refresh everything for 3-4 seconds after every change), but everything in it is laid out very well.

The amount of options available is staggering - I literally went through every tab a few times and kept finding new settings. The ability to setup a bunch of partitions, then individual users who can only access certain partitions, is a definite bonus. It allows me to create  accounts for individual clients without needing to take any complicated steps for ensuring data security.

The unit itself sits nicely in a corner hooked up to a UPS and has been running 24/7 since purchase - never had to reboot it. Setting it up to run in a RAID configuration only took about an hour, and it was dead simple to do.

There have been two firmware updates since purchase so obviously Buffalo is taking care of their customers.

I have not used the printer server option, but I do know that the UPS I have it hooked up to (an MGE unit) is not detected by the NAS.

I have and will continue to recommend this unit to anyone who needs a dependable, slick and user-friendly NAS at a good price.

Pros
2tb of cheap network storage, small.
Cons
not overly fast
Summary
I bought this NAS for a home network. It works quite well but don't expect GB netowork speeds. I get between 23-28meg/s transfer. It is plenty fast for streaming video ot 2 different computers at the same time.

I have had a couple times where it detects an error in the raid volume. The unit did not go down but it was extremely slow to rebuild. No data was lost.

All in all I am extremely happy with the unit.

Comment: Aside from the peace of mind afforded by knowing all of your critical data is safely backed up in the event of your PC kicking the bucket, said files can also be accessed from multiple computers or even, if you store media on your NAS, by a games console or TV.
