Excellent sound. Nice amp for my sennheisers
Great buy, does its job very well

Good quality for a value card, easy install, drivers work with Win 8.1 Pro.
Headphone amp is louder than on-board audio, but not as loud as my old PCI SB Audigy 2 card (which it replaced).
I've only tried it with 32 ohm gaming headphones, and it does the job well enough. It could be better for quiet music, but this will hold me to my next system build a year from now.

Solid sound card very good quality
It doesnt have a EMI shield
This is a very good budget sound card, the software that came with it is also pretty good.

Experience: 1 Days
This sound card does what it should and it will give you better sound quality than the integrated one.
None to be seen so far
Great cheap replacement for your integrated sound card.

Built in AMP, and supports Dolby headphone
good cost
Sound quality 7/10 but this is a value card
Having a built in AMP does wonders for my Sennheiser PC360

Dolby headphone support greatly enhances positional audio in FPS games

Headphone and microphone jacks work.
Great price
The drivers included didn't install properly on a fresh windows 7 install.
Asus' drivers website is hell to get through. It gave me drivers for different cards in the series several times which *surprise* didn't work. (This was slightly improved very recently)
My front panel audio doesn't work properly with the card, but it does with others.
This card was supposed to be an easy replacement for my onboard sound, which was causing some issues with my microphone. Upon putting it in my rig and installing the drivers, nothing worked. I decided to go ahead and reinstall windows 7 since I was long overdue for a format, and the drivers still would not work.

I got new drivers from Asus' website after navigating through that hell (not as bad as HP's website mind you) and everything, minus my front panel audio, works perfectly.

I'm satisfied with the card since it was only $30, but next time around, I'm going to go with something that is much better, and I'll be doing a lot more research.

Low Price, 5.1, Easy to install, "decent" control software. Works with Win7 x64.
Doesn't make me breakfast in bed.
Bought this to troubleshoot some sound issues I was having with an older Creative Audigy 2 card and cleared up right away after installing. Downloaded drivers from website rather than using disc. Obviously, this isn't the highest quality sound card on the market so you audiophiles that are even looking at this, don't bother but for anyone that is looking for better than onboard sound at a low price, this is the sound card for you. I am using a pair of Roccat Kaves and am enjoying the 5.1 channel sound delivered directly to my ears. The included software sweet is "decent", giving you lots of options. It can emulate anything from Stereo to 7.1 surround, room effects [reverb], EQ, LFE crossover control and more. Hit the right settings with a good pair of earphones = eargasm.

Experience: 1 Weeks
- front panel detection
- cheap
- good sound
- headphone amp is handy
- low profile card means it doesn't completely block GPU fans
- lacks a few software driver features
A great sound card for the price. I only ever use sound cards in my gaming desktops, but I never bother with the high-end cards because they don't provide any real benefit to the player.

Great SnR, front panel detection is absolutely fantastic, and the price can't be denied.

In this case, the card does it job well, but leaves a bit to be desired in the software driver front:

Using Teamspeak and Mumble often, I need to monitor my own microphone feed to make sure that I'm not talking too loudly over the channel. Previous sound cards, and even motherboard on-board audio controllers, have always had ways to monitor the microphone. The Xonar DG has this as well, but it's not true monitoring, rather it's a processed feed. This processed feed also means that it's slightly delayed, by say 0.2 - 0.5 seconds. This might seem like a niggle, but it's actually annoying because it's introducing an echo in the voice communications in games. Granted this is a cheap sound card, but if on-board audio has been able to have true line-in/microphone monitoring without processing, then a $30 sound card should be able to carry the same feature. In comparison, my other 9 year old Creative sound card, low-end as well, has this feature.

Headphone Amp
Software bugs
My motherboard has a built-in Realtek 7.1 sound chipset which is pretty good. I hadn't noticed any buzzing (one reason why you want a discrete sound card) but thought I would upgrade to a discrete sound card for improved sound quality anyways. So before I go into why you shouldnt buy this soundcard, I will list the good points about it.
(1) The headphone amp. Now this is no good for most PC gaming headsets, they are 'low ohm' headsets so dont need to be boosted. If you want to use a high-end audiophile headphones with it though (these headphones typically have a high resistance >16 ohms, so need to be amped), you will want to use this.
(2) Get rid of buzzing. If you are using onboard sound that is prone to emitting a buzzing noise then you will want to get a discrete sound card in order to eliminate this noise.
(3) DSP. This has a DSP, and a (decent) onboard equalizer and spatializer.
(1) Bugs. If you tweak around with the audio control panel, prepare for the possibility of being bluescreened while doing this.
(2) Xonar panel. It's not as usable as the control panels that come with realtek chipsets, and can be downright confusing. The extra confusingness doesnt offer any extra reward (like power user settings) its just badly designed.
(3) Confusing DSP options. Again, theres supposed functionality like voice morphing that can be selected from the Xonar panel. It doesnt work.
(4) Speakers+Desktop Mic= bad. Many sound cards and sound chipsets have a decent implementation of acoustic noise cancellation (for VOIP or teamspeak, etc). What this does, is it will take any sound that gets output to your speakers, and cancel it out at the microphone so that you're not transmitting your computer's sounds (or echoing) to whomever you're VOIPing with. The Xonar DG *has* noise cancellation, but turning it on will disable all of your DSP including your equalizer. Some other sound chipsets I've used don't have this limitation. Don't know why it exists on the Xonar DG.
Consider it if you use high resistance headphones that need to be boosted, if your sound card doesnt have a DSP, or if you have a bad experience with your onboard sound (e.g. buzzing). Avoid it if you dont need any of those things because it has a number of drawbacks. This card isnt a magic bullet, you kind of get what you pay for.

Comment: Don't expect the same level of quality as the Essence STX or Xense, but the Xonar DG is without a doubt a great card for those on a budget.

Comment: For around the price of lunch, you can improve the audio in your system and add a discrete headphone amp. Pretty much an impulse buy with great benefits at the recent prices this thing is listed at.
