The NETGEAR Universal WiFi Range Extender allows you to keep your current wireless equipment and improve coverage to eliminate " dead zones", giving you the freedom to roam anywhere in the house and access Internet without worrying about coverage. It is compatible with wireless b/g/n routers, gateways and Internet service provider's devices. Four Ethernet ports enable you to connect to gaming consoles, Internet TVs, and Blu-rayTM players.

My situation is a 3-storey house with office and router on the middle level, but finding a typical "low" signal downstairs where we have a rec room with bigscreen TV (often used for Netflix and online gaming) and often use a laptop, smartphones, etc. I was not able to use the WPS easy-connect option (because the devices I was trying to connect did not have the complementary WPS button) and instead had to go through the manual configuration process, which was problematic because the instructions in the manual were not clear, didn't work as explained, and were ultimately unhelpful, leaving me with one message that the connection to the router had been made, while another message would tell me that there was "limited or no connectivity." This led me to start searching the internet for fixes, and I found many disgruntled people looking for solutions. The instructions that I found that worked were at http://ad-agency.hubpages.com/hub/Netgear-WN2000RPT-Setup. The instructions there are very step-by-step, clear, and not only helped me get successfully connected, but also gave the helpful advice that the "limited or no connectivity" problem that would still occasionally surface could be dealt with by a reset accomplished by simply unplugging and re-plugging the range extender. I subsequently followed the advice and put a timer on the socket where the extender was plugged such that it resets every night when I'm asleep. So on the one hand, the WN2000RPT now works for me, and does its job very well; the signal that used to be "low" from my router is now always "very good" or "excellent" from the range extender. But has Netgear made it easy for you? No. Would I buy one of these again? Yes ... if there were no new options, but there are new options from both Netgear (e.g., the 3000RPT and Universal Dual Band) and others that I will go to first.
I purchased this hoping to advert running cable upstairs. It was a waste of time and money. To run Cat5 Cable means I have to remove moldings and drill holes etc. thru floors. I just didn't want to do that. I have located the extender directly above my existing D-Link DIR655 Router hoping to connect to a computer upstairs. It doesn't work.
I frequently have to move the extender a foot in either direction to regain the connection when lost, and usually it goes from a red light, back to green, and starts working again. But randomly it won't respond to this technique, and will remain with no connection for quite some time. No rhyme or reason. I'm not sure if its overheating, but its not on top of anything with heat, and its also near the floor.
