Pros Gives you four SATA plugs on a molex. Fancy looking with heatshrink and braiding. Solid connectors.
Cons Bad crimps.
Summary Had bought this with a CoolerMaster 4-to-3 bay adapter for four WD 3TB Red drives. Looked like it was decent cabling at first, having braiding and heatshrink in the right places, though something about the wires going into the SATA connectors felt a bit off. Plugged it in and everything was going fine. Each connector had a very tight, solid connection to its mating connector. However, after a few weeks, I had been having intermittent problems where one of the new drives would disappear from the system. One of them wouldn't power back up anymore and needed an RMA to Western. Initially thought maybe these new Reds as a model were having weird issues (going to sleep and not coming back, these drives were mounted but were not added to an array right away), but the issue always seemed to be from one of those drives. It became more apparent when I made them into an array a few weeks back. I couldn't put a finger on it until yesterday when ALL FOUR drives on the SAME connector spontaneously went offline out of the blue (I heard the drives spin down and back up midswing) and started generating large amounts of IO errors on my zfs array (all four were generating IO errors, the remaining six in the system were still online and okay). Had to replace it with one SATA power -> 2x SATA power + molex and two 4-pin molex -> 2x SATA power splitters I had lying around (not elegant, but it works). When I compared the SATA connector crimps of the BitFenix cable with the crimps on the splitters (that came from various ASUS/Gigabyte motherboards), they felt extremely loose in their crimp (not firm like the motherboard-provided ones) and the wires appeared to be thinner in comparison. Maybe I had a one-off or a bad batch, but it doesn't look like the right thickness of wire was used for that connector (or maybe the heatshrink was supposed to cover the difference and shrunk too much *shrug*) and it was rolling loose in the connector causing bad power. Might've even caused that other drive to go bad. Will think twice before buying this brand again.
