Summary Had this for a few weeks now working with an Acer EasyStore H340 WHS 2003. The Acer doesn't have port multiplication so I can't use the Esata, and have it plugged into USB2.0 for now. I have a new mediasonic usb3.0 pcie card on the way though. I have moved 2 of my Seagate Barracuda 2tb drives, and two new Hitachi 4tb drives, which were all picked up correctly with no problems.
I haven't had any issues as of yet that are caused by the 8 Bay Enclosure, and from what I've been reading, most peoples problems are caused by thier original pc incompatiblities or software limitations. Even on USB2.0 all my HD/mkv/mp4/etc. movies stream flawlessly. I am very pleased with the puchase.
Summary I purchased this in late December after moving my HTPC setup to a Zotac ZBOX AD10 mini-PC. That mini-PC has eSATA without port-multiplication support but does have 2x USB 3.0 ports meaning this made sense. I have previously owned the 4-Bay Mediasonic cases (USB 2.0 and eSATA) as well as a pair of Sans Digital 4-Bay eSATA enclosures.
I originally complained that there unit would get too hot. Mediasonic has confirmed that the power supply unit does rest in the bottom of the unit, however, they sent me a replacement fan as one of them had been squealing slightly. Once I replaced the fan, temperatures with the fans on the second setting hover between 30C and 35C under load depending on the drive used (Samsung, Seagate or Western Digital).
The build quality is nicer than the Sans Digital boxes and I've always thought the "look" of the Mediasonic boxes is nicer. Transfer speeds on USB 3.0 have capped around 80-85MB/sec which is in line with the processor speed/chipset being used (an AMD E-350). If you do have issues with all drives being detected, make sure you update your firmware for the USB 3.0 chipset on your computer as this fixes the problem. ZOTAC, who makes the Media PC I was using, couldn't tell me this! This review was modfied by poster w 05-20-12 02:04 PM
