Cons noise possibly, difficult to install, bad instructions, doesn't seem to have difference from fans
Summary i got it comboed with a psu, the price very quite nice. The radiator fan is supposed to be 100% powered all time, so it may produce a bit of noise, since its exposed at the back. the instruction booklet is very unclear. It took me 3 hours to figure out how to put it on my asus p8z77-V. My frd got a fan style cpu heatsink for about the same price, and the temperature is even lower during stress test
Summary So I ordered this unit along with every other pieces to build myself a new system. The unit worked fine at the beginning. But then, 2-3 days later it started to make a very loud grinding sound while operating.
After my extensive research on the web I found I was very far from being the only owner with that issue. I directly contacted corsair about 2 weeks ago (as written on a notice when you open the box) to inquire an RMA request which they accepted and asked me to send them the unit immediately to my fees.
I finally got an answer from them telling me: "Due to high demand on your replacement item, we regret to inform you that your RMA is currently backordered without a definitive ETA" So here I am left without a pc because I sold the original fan coming with my processor because I didn't expect I'd be needing it.
So overall, the unit did have a great performance while it was working properly, for about 2 days, but then it failed and I have to say that I'm far from pleased with my customer service experience with this company which is a great deal when I look into buying a product. Also, this was my first corsair buy and let me tell you it will also be my last!
Pros -Somewhat quieter than air coolers -Somewhat better performance than air coolers (particularly on high load temps) -Good tubing
Cons -Expensive -Odd installation system -Lacked screws for push pull -Expensive
Summary If its on sale for $40, its a pretty decent alternative to some air coolers. Its definitely quieter than my old A50 and provides slightly better temps, but in the end, buying a H40 is more of a splurge for giggles than it is for performance benefits. Backplate and mounting system was somewhat confusing and cheap. It lacked cooling for push pull. I would probably only recommend it for the 'cool' factor or small form factor systems.
Pros Far more effective than standard fan + heat sink, even for non overclockers.
Cons Tricky installation.
Summary Does its job very well without being over kill. Got it on sale with my processor, so it was well worth the price.
To the person who said it is too loud mine is one of the quietest in my machine, far quieter than my graphics card when its at 40% fan speed. Also the grinding in the pump sounds like a faulty product, mine makes 0 noise.
The installation instructions are over simplified and if you don't have experience it may be confusing.
To those who had issues with the back plate - the screw holes are staggered, meaning they are not all in the same spot for each corner. Just look carefully at your back plate for the socket markers and put the plugs into the right holes for your processor socket type.
For installing the backplate you have to make sure you're working from the back of the motherboard, then install the motherboard + CPU, then the cooler - if your tower has the access panel behind the mother board, your life will be easier as the panel is there for this so you can install the motherboard first.
When you screw the front plate in, leave it loose once the screws catch, then install the cooler and tighten the screws.
Last thought on this, using the mounting tape, it does just attach right to your motherboard, there is no special spot it should be attached to, it is fine - do not worry :)
Pros Works okay cpu temp I5-3540 running around 30 degrees Celsius idle haven't tested load and don't really know how good that is.
Cons Noise / Installation harder than necessary
Summary Supplied fan is to loud and I swapped it for the case fan as it is quieter. Pump motor for liquid makes a grinding noise which isn't that loud but really annoying and you can feel vibration on touching it.
Installation instructions are okay but tricky... 1) Backplate needed to be bent slightly to get screws through (should probably just have drilled the hole a little bigger) 2) Install CPU first as the retention ring is in the way once you start. 3) Don't tighten screws until pump is placed in retention ring.
Pros Works well, and keeps my cpu cool. Very firm mounting bracket.
Cons Not completely silent, and the mounting bracket holes are not perfectly aligned.
Summary When installing I had to supply significant pressure to the mounting back plate to warp it a little so it would line-up with all four screw holes. However, once installed the unit is very secure.
If I leave my computer running at night, I notice it sounds like there is rain hitting the window. I guess that is the sound of water dripping inside the radiator. Still it makes much less noise than my fish tank in a different room.
