Summary Bought this as part of a bundle for a budget gaming system for a friend. Did not bother overclocking as he mostly plays older games, and this CPU will automatically clock itself up to 3.9 GHz on a single core for intensive applications like a game that only utilizes a single core. Stock fan is loud until you go into your BIOS and set the smart fan settings and minimum fan speeds. Once I did that the fan is quiet enough to not need replacing. Combined with an SSD, a GTX460, and 8gb of RAM it was a nice little system, can't think of what could beat it in that price range.
Pros Best bang for the buck Good on power...6 cores running 3.3GHz t 95w Good OC'er
Summary Ok, so I don't know what some people are talking about, but my "day-to-day" apps run super snappy. Want things to fire-up faster? Get an SSD, no heat issues, no OC'ing required, compact in size, and very friggin' snappy.
If you want to compare to an i5, let's look at the price point. Intel i5 c 3.2GHz = $189.99. FX6100 = $109.99...win...
So, yeah, the fx-6100 won't get you the benches that an i5 spits-out, but for a fraction of the cost, I have no regrets. But then again, snappiness is very subjective. AMD fan for life.
Summary As time goes on I keep buying more and more AMD components. I choose this processor due to the power verses cost ratio - which cannot be beat. So I'm really happy with it! Easily overclocked too which is a bonus! (Not to mention 6 cores just sounds cool)
Pros Very flexible for overclocking. Allows much greater multi tasking Runs pretty cool with stock fan even while overclocked.
Cons none really at this price.
Summary I am not sure why I bought this one instead of an FX-4170. I knew ahead of time that for now four core chips are better for gaming than 6 core. However I am pretty happy with this thing, nonetheless. Plus I don't game all that much now a days anyway. I might play FarCry 3 when it comes out and Borderlands 2 maybe. It's main strength, in my opinion, is how good it is at allowing multi tasking. My first test (before even overclocking) was to run a DVD ripper app, while browsing the net, running a heavy java app and listening to some tunes. Everything ran smoothly without any hiccups. I, now, have overclocked this thing to 4.0Ghz on stock fan and it's running just fine. I actually had it running at 4.2 and it was stable, but the temp was getting a bit high and I decided not to risk it. I have tried playing BF3 at 4.0Ghz and it ran just fine for a couple of hours. However my video card (Radeon HD7570 it's pretty much 6570 just very slightly improved) is crap so I still had a bit of lag going on.
Pros good for multitasking and gaming and everything else
Cons none so far
Summary I had to buy this CPU so I could use my new motherboard (GIGABYTE 78LMT-USB3) as my old cpu was not supported. It is just as fast as the old cpu (Phenom II X4 965 BE)and is great at multitasking, gaming and everything else you could want. For the price it was purchased at ($109.99) I would call it a great bang for the buck cpu. Very happy with this purchase. Also I am using the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ cpu cooler, not the stock heatsink and fan and it is running cool and quiet at 3.8 GHz.

Blow away the competition with the unrestrained power of an AMD FX Processor. Unlocked out of the box and competitively-priced, AMD FX Processor give you more bang for your buck with aggressive performance and lightning-fast responsiveness.
