Summary I was looking for a high quality keyboard that could stand up to a significant amount of typing on a daily basis. As a programmer I spend nearly all of my time in front of a computer typing away and needed a keyboard that could take the "abuse" or wear of someone typing 8 hours a day every week of the year. I'd been taking a long hard look at the Filco line of keyboards with MX switches and decided to pull the trigger on this one.
First impressions are really good, the keyboard is very sturdy, there is no chassis flex in the keyboard what so ever, and the lock snapping supports on the back of the keyboard elevate it to a very comfortable typing angle. In addition there is anti slip pads on these supports that wrap around the entire support, not just the part that makes contact with the desk, which is a much better finish than some other makes. It is rather heavy weighing at about 3lbs and when its sittings on your desk it isn't going anywhere.
The MX Brown switches are no different than any other and have always been consistent across different makes of keyboards, and the included key removal tool does a satisfactory job of removing keys.
The only downside with my keyboard was the key caps are pad printed. I would have preferred laser etched keys considering the price of $139.99 I feel is relatively high, however, it isn't necessarily a deal breaker as replacement key cap sets can be had relatively cheaply for MX branded switches.
Overall after using the keyboard for about 2 weeks and typing som 80K lines of code I am very pleased with it. In fact I went back and bought another for my PC at home. Highly recommend.
Pros - Easy to press - Small footprint - Solid build - Velcro strap - Ability to customize key caps
Cons - None
Summary I picked up my keyboard before NCIX started selling them. After doing quite a bit of research and using my friends keyboards I decided on cherry reds or browns. Blacks were took too much effort to push and blues are supposed to be the loudest. At the time nobody was selling reds (linear, easiest to press) because they were 'limited edition' so I went with browns and I don't regret it.
I know there are cheaper mx cherry mechanical keyboard options out there(Leopold) but Filco is still an easy brand to go with.
I've also picked up a few custom key caps here and there (Hello TeamLiquid) and just by using the key cap removal tool and being careful(spacebar/shift/enter,capslock) it's been a breeze changing the look of it.
