I am loving this card, it has been rock solid since putting it in. Drivers loaded into Windows 8 no problem. Its quiet and throws out sick frame rates, everything I wanted in a card. Well worth the price.

Pros
Cool and quiet
Cons
Needs 2 PCI-E 6 pin power connectors
Summary
Upgraded from the 5770 to 7870, ASUS makes the best cards, this card lowered my system temperature by 5-8 degrees C and lowered my idle wattage by 30 watts. This card's heat sink not only looks cool, it runs cool and very quiet. I am very happy with this card, ASUS makes the best cards. Came with 2 Steam games (Never Settle Forever Radeon Promo).

Pros

-more performance
Cons
I knew the R7 and R9 were coming out, but didn't know it was just right around the corner. Good thing that the R9 270X is just a rebadged Pitcairn XT with overclocked specs. At $209 before tax I saved a bit of money with included games if you think about it that way, but that's not why I did it. I just lucked out, but I don't regret it.
Summary
I would have bought the R9 270X knowing that they were just about to have them for purchase. No regrets though.

Bought it to play Battlefield 4 with better quality settings. My 6850 would have held up, but I wouldn't have enjoyed the game as much.

I still have a 1680x1050 monitor, so I don't know what the performance is like on 1080p. I'm sure there's no noticeable difference.

Frame rate is fine even with PCIE 2.0 and a 965 overlocked to 3.8GHz with the northbridge at 2.6GHz.

A+ card

Pros
Good price, silent, good price
Cons

Summary
This GPU is very silent even at full load with low idle and max temperature. Prob one of better brand to buy since asus one goes on sale often. Also, it looks cool with those heatpipes

Pros
Fast and Quiet
Cons
Priced similar to the GTX 760
Summary
I suggest buyers to just get the Gtx 760, because the price is similar, the 760 is newly release and might even outperform the this card.

Pros
fast enough for my needs, big improvement (synthetic benches) over my previous card
Cons
weird "gap" between rear bracket and heatsink shield (does not affect performance in any way)
Summary
I held off upgrading my Gigabyte 6850OC until prices were within reason for my needs. I don't actually play demanding games (except the occasional wow, d3 and starcraft) - so as you can see, even an the older card was more than sufficient. Anyway, The card went on sale for $235 (with $190 worth of games via AMD Never Settle bundles and an MIR of $20). With everything said and done, the card itself is only $25. I had one machine that I wanted to upgrade the video card. It was running a HD6450 with 512MB DDR3 and wanted to get either a 7750-7790 for that machine. Moving the 6850 to that machine further justified my purchase of the new asus card.
I would have preferred a Gigabyte card but I wanted to retain my current connectivity of two DVI and a full size DP. Most of the current gen Gigabyte cards (AMD)only had one DVI connector with some sort of DP and HDMI combination. Some (NVIDIA) Gigabyte cards had the prerequisite dual DVI so
I was also somewhat leaning on getting a Nvidia card (either a 660 or 660Ti) but both card were significantly more expensive than the Asus 7870 (at the time of purchase). Performance gains and differences were negligible for my needs so the bundle price was definitely the decision maker.
Performance-wise compared to the Gigabyte 6850OC, synthetic bench using furmark (1.10.6) almost yield double the results at both 1080 and 720 resolutions.
One strange behavior I noticed was that with the 6850OC (memory usage hovered around 965-980 MB with GPU-Z (0.7.1)while running Furmark benches, while the dedicated memory usage for the 7870 was always below 275MB. Both Gigabytes (windforce) and Asus (DirectCUII) provide comparable cooling performance. The 6850 never exceeded 69C while the 7870 never went over 71C (ambient temps may account for the slight difference, so I consider those temperatures equal.
AMD Control center reports a GPU clock slider up to 1400MHz (from a base 1000MHz), Memory clock up to 1450 (from a 1200MHz base) and a -20 to +20% power slider. Naturally these are reference settings and YMMV when it comes to overclocking.
The 7870 comes with a crossfire bridge, a driver disc, a d-sub adapter and a 6-pin extension. I find this last piece kind of strange since it merely extends an existing 6-pin pcie cable from your power supply by another 6 inches. The card itself requires 2 six-pin connectors and most decent power supplies will not need the extension. I could probably understand if they included a double 4-pin molex to 6 pin converter for those with a power supply that did not have enough pcie plugs. This should theoretically work although not recommended.
The card itself has two LEDs on the pcie power connectors. If sufficient power is supplied or the correct connections are made, both will light-up yellow. There is also a support along the upper edge of the card to impart rigidity to the relatively heavy card.
A 30-minute run of furmark burn in resulted in a usage of 99W. A 15% overclock added another 10W to the equation as reported by furmark. This was definitely more efficient than my 6850OC which required at least 127W at stock speeds.
Bottomline: the bundles and value added features of the card makes the 7870 one of the best values out there in terms of relative performance. I'm loyal to neither a ATI/AMD nor NVidia (For the midrange category - I currently own GTS450, GTX650Ti, HD5770, HD6850 on several machines) the 7870 is the latest addition and while it's not the latest and the best, my needs do not require a high end card. For me, purchase depends on what's currently the best value and performance for the buck. This review was modfied by poster y 06-18-13 12:27 AM

Comment: HD 7870 is a high-end graphics card that can play most titles smoothly at 1920x1200 resolution with maximum detail, and can comfortably render even higher resolutions if you knock down the image quality settings a few rungs.
