Product Information

Windows 7, only better:

  • Windows 8 is built on the rock-solid foundation of Windows 7, but it's been improved on all fronts.
  • You can install Windows 8 on the same hardware that powers Windows Vista and Windows 7, and you'll love how it works on new devices, too.
  • Windows 8 was designed with Windows 7 apps in mind, because you probably have older apps you need to use.
  • In addition to the new look of the Start Screen, Windows 8 incorporates the desktop that you're familiar with.
  • Think of the desktop as one of the many apps you can run in Windows 8.
  • In the desktop, you'll see all the settings, devices and features you used in Windows 7-and you can run the desktop apps you ran in Windows 7, too.

Cloud-connected with your Microsoft account:

  • Sign in to your Windows 8 device with your Microsoft account and you're immediately connected to the people, files and settings you care about.
  • Your PC comes to life with all the things that make Windows yours, including your Start page, themes, language preferences, browsing history and browser favourites.
  • You can connect your favourite services to your Microsoft account, too, like Hotmail, Messenger, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and more.
  • And you can immediately get to your photos, docs and other files, whether they're on SkyDrive, Facebook, Flickr or other services.

It's all about the apps:

  • In the Windows Store, you can search for or browse great apps, all grouped in easy-to-find categories.
  • We highlight great apps for you and provide quick access to frequently downloaded apps.
  • You can also see how other people have rated apps.
  • You'll always know what's interesting, new and popular.
  • You won't have to worry about buying something you don't want because you can try before you buy, if the app supports it.
  • If you try an app and like it, you can buy it and continue using the full app with no interruption.
  • You won't waste time or lose your place.

Experience: 11 Weeks
Love it, much faster than Windows 7.
The start page is stupid, it's all about getting people to use tablets, and personally I miss the start button.
Can't go wrong with this upgrade.

Experience: 1 Years
- Cleaner interface
- Was on sale when first released (very cheap)
- fast start up (~feels like 4 seconds with SSD)
- takes time to transition to from Windows 7
Got this when it was on sale. Great windows once you get used to the tiles. I now actually prefer tiles over old start menu.

Experience: 8 Months
overall good os and perfomance is way better than windows 7
the metro style. i dont like it. so i installed third part start menu which is way better
This is one best os out there. very stable once all updates are isntalled. also including bitlocker for like at price point of 149.99. vs windows 7 back then with ultimate would have cost 300 just to get the bit locker encryption. nice os in general. would highly reccomend for touch screen or gaming

- Hyper-V
- Fast boot
- Better multi monitor support
- Some annoyances when using the UI with a mouse/keyboard
Everything I could do in Windows 7 I can do in Windows 8. Getting the Pro version gave me access to the Hyper-V client which is well worth it when testing new software. So far I've seen only improvements and it runs well on my 3 and a half year old equipment.

- Driver detection is amazing
- Pretty much Windows 7
- Updates are faster
- Faster Booting
- Got it for $15 through a promotion
- Need 3rd party software to bring back start button
- Not a lot of updates
I would not pay full price for this. I got 2 copies for $15 a piece. I just entered some random information on the Windows 8 promo page. It's better than 7 if you get StartIsBack. Start8 runs in the background so I don't recommend it.

It comes after Windows 7
Expensive compared to the $40 upgrade
It installed and works well with my new motherboard. The only thing I did not like was the very very tiny font they used for the key. If you stick that to the back of your case it will be unreadable.

Performance is good and the user interface is not that bad.
Froze a couple of times and the included apps are not the greatest
Didn't think I would get used to windows 8 and the lack of a start button but I found it alright and I am not Insanely disappointed!

Fast and easy install - User friendly install
Price - Was outrageous everywhere I looked, NCIX was cheapest.
Windows 7 users could update  to Windows 8 Pro for 48$ but was limited time offer, so paying 150 seems high. The new skype app is easy to use, had trouble getting skydrive to work.

Experience: 2 Months
Speed, Speed, Speed
Stability (Not that Win7 wasn't)
Great Multi-monitor support
Windows Store (Metro) Apps are a cool addition
Old Drivers work great
-Windows store (Metro) Apps possibly easier to use with your finger on a touch screen (BUT not difficult to use with a mouse).
-App store at only ~30K apps as I write this (Its growing though)
-They removed some network features from Win7
Forget what people have to say about Windows 8 and approach it with an open mind because it is quite well made and kinda awesome IMO. (I consider myself a power user and multi-task like crazy) You would have to be "special" to think that the developers who made this aren't power users and didn't think it through.
I am a software / web developer using a multi-monitor setup with a Dell laptop and really appreciate the addition of a proper second task bar. I sort of like how metro apps have their own task bar.
If you consider yourself a power user, you will not find too many useful metro apps ATM. That's why you have a desktop mode. You can still use all the old apps just as easily as before. I use a metro music player in the background and I like how i can resize it to the corner on one of my monitors. I can run the metro app full screen on one monitor and work a classic desktop app on another. That's Proper multi-tasking IMO.
The new start menu is easy to use. Start typing away and find your app/setting/file fast. You can even group apps together or hide unwanted ones to find what you are looking for. Stop complaining about it, there's nothing wrong with it.
If your hardware manufacturer hasn't come up with a stable drive, that's your manufacturer's fault. I don't have a single issue and most of the drivers I use are meant for Win 7 and it works just fine.
The real metro apps are easier to use with touch. But its not difficult to use with a mouse. The controls and buttons are a lot bigger. The scroll works horizontally or vertically based on the app. Easy enough.
The app store is also growing but ATM only at ~30k apps.
They have removed some settings/features from Win7 which I occasionally used. I don't see why they needed to remove something.
Also the system tray is only on the main monitor's taskbar. WHY ?
Opening the Start Menu hides any open metro app. WHY ?
Minor grievances.
Its a great OS and you can consider the metro apps as an additional feature that you can use if you wish. No one's forcing you into it. The apps will get better as the store matures (iOS and Android took a few years to reach where they are now). You can consider this a transitional OS. The idea is get yourself a touchscreen tablet or monitor. Once the metro apps mature, you might feel the need to use it more.
I personally like it for the $40 upgrade that I did.
Haters gonna Hate

Experience: 7 Months
Fast...Very Very Fast.
Small Learning Curve.
=Speeds up my Boot Time.
Speeds up my Games.
Speeds up my Application Launch.
Just Great!
