Solid board that won't break the bank

Solid board that had everything I needed
Wasn't overly expensive
Haven't had any problems in about a year of ownership
The dual bios backup really sets my mind at ease as that's how I broke my last board
really great would absolutely recommend this board for anyone who asks

Experience: 3 Months

Great budget board

-Has all the features you'll need at a budget price
-Plain and simple aesthetics that look good
-Crossfire Support
Has everything you'll need and more at a great price, not much more to say

Experience: 1 Years

First, don't bother with some of these negative reviews. Go search for professional reviews for this mobo. Most of these reviews don't even know what VRMs and power phases are, let alone the knowledge to properly evaluate a motherboard. There are plenty of tech forums out there with helpful resources.

With that said, this is an excellent 970 mobo, one of the best.

1) 8 power phases for overclocking Fx 6xxx and even the 8xxx CPUs. Most other 970 boards only have 4 power phases.

2) Effective heatsink on VRM, which is vital for any overclocking.

3) Practically a 990 board except for having only 1 PCI-E x16 slot. Get a 990 if you plan on SLI or CFX.
1) LLC settings in BIOS is counter-intuitive.

2) Only one x16 slot so no SLI or CFX
Again, don't bother with the other negative reviews and go straight to professional reviews. Half these people probably can't properly put together a system,

or are using cheap/generic power supplies that fried their components and damaged their mobo.

I brought this at a local store but can't stand by to see these know-nothings trash a perfectly good board.

I have my 6300 r 4.3 on this board with a Cryorig H7 cooler.
Also, I am using a quality PSU, the Antec HCG-850m. Don't cheap out on PSUs, or you'll end up writing trashy reviews on all the components because you don't know anything.

There are plenty of professional reviews and tech forums that backs up my claims.

Great entry level for gaming motherboard
easy to install
lots of USB
Change my MSI MSI 970A-G46 for that motherboard because stop working

I have received the Rev 2.0 of that motherboard and I was happy about that
I have install my AMD FX 8350 with my 16 gig ram and work like a charm

Don't have any problems with it

Love the motherboard colors also

Experience: 2 Weeks

Good board layout. Nice dark PCB, lots of fan headers, 8+2 phase, UEFI Bios
PCIe 2.0, VT2021, only 6 SATA ports
Good motherboard layout with ample spacing between the two pcie16 slots. Good board for a single video card layout and the 8+2 VRM helps a lot especially when paired with a high TDP CPU like the 8350. Moderate to decent overclocks should be achievable with this board (just dont go too crazy).

A few generations ago (AM3 and prior) most Gigabyte board utliize a light blue pcb with some white accents (memory and pci slots). It is nice to see a shift to the darker pcb with dark gray heatsinks and slots.

UEFI bios has lots of options and allow better integration with bigger storage and Windows 8/8.1. Direct boot to Windows feels like a full 10 seconds faster than standard boot in Win7.

I believe it has 4 fan headers (1 cpu, 2 system and 1 power fan). Fortunately, the enclosure I would be using has a built-in controller for 3 case fans (front intake, rear and top exhaust). These left me 3 unused fan headers should I need or want to add another CPU cooling fan to the Hyper212 evo or supplemental case fans.

For the AMD AM3+ socket, you'll be hard-pressed to find a PCIe 3.0 x16 slot. (I think only the Asus 990FX Gen3 has PCIE3). PCIe 2.0 x16 should still be more than sufficient for all the current video cards (Titan included). Besides, if you're going to be installing a $1000+ card, then I seriously doubt you would be pairing it with a $100 motherboard.

Not a big fan of the Via VT2021 audio chipset. I would much rather prefer a Realtek ALC 889 or 898 (not 892) for onboard audio. The Via has better specs but worst output lines than a Realtek. However, if you are using regular speakers or headphones, the difference should be indistinguishable. Again, I sincerely doubt that somebody who purchases this motherboard will require audiophile quality (or at least expect audiophine quality sound). If you want better sound, get a discrete card - but for 80% of people out there, this should be sufficient.

Last are the 6 SATA ports. For most, 3 should be sufficient. (1 SSD, 1 HDD, 1 ODD). My only concern is layout. I still prefer the SATA ports to be parallel with the board as oppossed to a 90 degree perpendicular layout. It just makes for a cleaner cable arrangement.

These boards are designed to be entry level so dont expect too much. If you are purchasing any board at this pricepoint - check the specifications thoroughly. The $10 difference between the Gigabyte motherboards with the 970a chipset account for a lot of small but important differences.

Experience: 5 Days

- 4 USB 3.0 connectors(2 on rear and 1 header)
- 14 USB 2.0 connectors(8 on rear, with 3 headers)
- Supports FX, Phenom, Athlon CPUs from AM3 to AM3+
- Supports 125w CPUs(My last board didn't)
- All Solid Capacictors -- no cheap electrolytics
- 6 Sata III connectors
- Multiple damage protection on circuitry
- 7.1 Audio VIA VT2021 With an Optical Connector for S/PDIF output)
- Motherboard a UEFI bios with a cursor -- very user friendly, detailed and intelegence with automatic UEFI detection(Rather then manual legacy/UEFI settings -- this can be disabled in BIOS however).
- Front panel connectors are near the Main ATX Power Connector rather then the bottom near the USB header and Sata connectors(Front panel pins are also colored and labled with (+/-) to help identify
the correct position).
- 1 Four pin chassis fan connector(With two 3 pin fan connectors near the the main atx connector)
- It's built like a rock
- Driver CD has Google Chrome on it(Good in my opinion)
- The driver CD had a driver bug with the USB 3.0 driver -- caused the CPU to go in an infinite loop causing the usage to be 25% on idle -- gigabyte has a patch on their website.
- Comes with Norton on the CD.
- Linux does not work correctly with the IOMMU setting in the bios disabled(DEFAULT) I originally tried to start Mint but the Lan Controller, Keyboard/Mouse did not work without it enabled.

This board is fantastic for someone who has an entry level board. I originally had an Asrock N68C-GS FX which was -- I guess you can say -- `Feature-less'(Or in my opinion anyway!)

If you get passed the CD and it's problems(Typically Windows 7 does not have a driver for the LAN controller). I recommend using the CD to get the lan driver, then install everything else from Gigabyte's website or the chip's website(Via, Realtek, etc) if you know how -- to avoid problems.

Other then that this board installs and runs without a hitch. Would recommend it for a good budget board and a gaming board.
