Experience: 6 Months
Pros
Light, cheap, easy to use
Cons
Battery only good for a couple of hours, touchpad is touchy
Summary
For the price you can't beat this. Linux is surprisingly easy to use and this has a built in camera for video phoning/sharing. The built in apps are quite good - you could use them in place of MS office if you want. Battery life is a bit weak. Found that I had to charge it after less than 2 hours. Also the touchpad had some problems initially. Solved that (mostly) by increasing the sensitivity settings for the touchpad in Linux.

Pros
-easy to use, easily connects to the web, light-weight and very easy to carry around, has a good speaker, has many usb slots & the system loads pretty quick
Cons
can't use webcam on the integrated msn feature, doesn't have a lot of memory..& you can't delete some of the already installed programs, no cd/dvd drive slot, somewhat small screen..can't see an entire image of a website..need to scroll a bit
Summary
Overall the Asus EE PC is a great small, compact laptop for users who does not do a lot of downloading...basically it's good for typing notes, chatting on the integrated MSN and for checking emails...also it's good that windows Xp can be installed into the EE PC, u would need to buy an external USB Cd drive to do that though.

It's great for first-time laptop owners (like myself) who doesn't know too much about laptops and who wants something just to surf the net with.

Experience: 7 Days
Pros
compact, loaded, easy to use
Cons
battery life, people not familiar with linux might need XP installed, speed might be an issue.
Summary
Been using it for a couple of days, and though i listed a couple of weakness this Laptop has, you can't really complain due to the size. I mean, you can actually carry it in a purse! Not as small as a PDA, and not as big as a 14'laptop which you still will have trouble carrying around.

Pros
Size, Price, Portability
Cons
Speed, Storage
Summary
All in all, the EEE was a very good purchase. I upgraded to 2GB of RAM, added an 8GB SDHC, and installed Windows XP. I bring it to school everyday and take notes. It has replaced my traditional pen and clipboard.

It is convenient having a notebook that is actually small enough to bring anywhere.

If you plan on using it for heavy-duty applications or storing a media collection, look elsewere. This EEE is a secondary system.

Pros
- Really small
- Works out of the box
- zero hardware noise
Cons
- warranty void if upgrading ram
- simple programs take long to load

- no settings to disable hibernation when lid is closed :(

- no separate volume controls
Summary
I'm really happy with this thing. I baught it as a gift for my grandma so she can listen to web radio around the house.
I'm going to use it with the default software.

I upgraded the RAM to 1GB when the corsair module VS1GSDS667D2 was on sale for 14.99 after 10$ rebate. I was also able to pawn the original 512 RAM for another 10$ making the upgrade net cost about 8$ (after taxes and such). Unfortunately opening the bottom bay meant voiding the warranty for the upgrade.

I really wish this had a built in DVD drive, perhaps in the screen panel somehow, like the iMac. It's really the only major thing missing.

I bought an external DVD drive that uses 2 USB ports, 1 pwr 1 data. The EEE recognized it right away and played the media. However I did notice a problem with the audio/video sync for a dvd movie. This could just be a codec issue and future updates can resolve it, I hope.

The voice command feature is funny/cool, but I cannot figure out how to customize it.

-- update --

After letting granny use this for some time is has become obvious separate volume controls would be nice. Watching an old lady try to pull off a button combo can get sad fast. V-controls should be put on the same plane as the power button so they can be used when the lid is down. And there needs to be an option to disable hibernation when the lid is down.

Pros
Price, speed, quality, portability, ease of use.
Cons
SSD is not upgradeable. The keyboard is tight, and does take some getting used to. Screen resolution is 800x480, which cuts off some dialogue boxes, making it more difficult to configure some apps, such as Thunderbird.
Summary
I bought the Eee primarily for its size and portability. When I'm travelling, I don't want to lug a heavy laptop around. I had the Eee running within minutes of taking it out of the box, and is certainly very intuitive and easy to use. While it won't replace my old ThinkPad entirely, and is not intended for any heavy-duty computing, it is perfect for keeping in touch with the world while on a road trip. I also installed WinXP on it, just to see how easy it was. It was very easy. The Asus support disk provides all the drivers for the hardware. After installing Windows, I used the same support disk to restore the Eee back to stock - the restore process took about 5 minutes! Overall, I'm a very happy customer, and would recommend this product to anyone.
