When building a custom computer and choosing a custom case the first consideration should be the size of motherboard being used. Being one of the largest cases ATX computer cases are capable of fitting a maximum motherboard size of 12 x 9.6 inches (30.5 x 24.4 cm) or smaller. This size is an excellent choice for builds where space is readily available as ATX full-size towers themselves can be quite large. Full-size cases are specifically designed to fit more components internally including radiators, multiple hard drives, bigger cooling systems and SLI/Crossfire configurations. If expansion isn’t as big of a concern it is safe to consider ATX mid-size and smaller towers which in some cases can still offer the same luxuries as a full tower while saving space.
