Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu CPU Cooler

Zalman once again comes out with a quality product that is both easy on the ears and versatile but the CNPS7700-AlCu is not quite a slam dunk as it cannot quite handle the heat output of some of Intel's hotter processors in silent mode. In quiet mode it performs acceptably with the Prescott 3.6 but we would recommend taking a look at the CNPS7700-Cu for some of the hotter processors as it was still fairly warm. For those on AMD systems or slower Intel processors, the Zalman would be a great addition for any end user who wishes to reduce the amount of noise from their computer. The Zalman is very quiet - for those using stock Intel HSF units, there can be a significant noise reduction that can take place with the CNPS7700-AlCu both at the high and low fan speed settings.
While installation was not difficult, there are a lot of small parts included with the 7700 unit so care is needed to make sure that none of them are misplaced should the time come up where the CNPS7700 will be transferred to a new socket type. This has been one of the better features that are becoming more common place with HSF units and hopefully Zalman will continue to refine the installation process. We still hope that Zalman will replace their current fanbus unit with one that is accessible from the outside of the case. Some users have also noted that the width of the Zalman may be problematic on some boards/cases - if the socket is too close to the edge of the board, it may interfere with the powersupply in many modern cases.

Have it on the overclocked Athlon XP and it cool it nicely.

I picked this up for an old P4 build that needed a quieter HSF. This Zalman does its job well. Cools the P4 3.0GHz Northwood very well and is very quiet. The included Fan Mate controller, like with all Zalman HSFs, is absolute garbage. It looks like something from a dollar store and have a thick ribbon running from your HSF to the controller is ugly. It does its job sure, but it's rather pointless. I always run my Zalman HSFs and stock speeds through the 3-pin CPU connector - never had a problem.

Pretty good CPU heatsink overall, had to bend some of the fins so they did not touch the PSU. New Fanmate adjusting thing better than the old one. If your looking for great cooling I reccomend Zalmans Heatpipe cooler that looks like a jet engine. When watching the temeratures realtime while slowwing the speed on the fan there was not much increase of temperature at idle.

This looks like a good heat sink. I ordered this with my pc but ncix did not install it. I understand the reason why they did not install it as it is a heavy part and they do not want to damage it. But for a novice like me. I did not know how to install it so i was scared to install it as I needed to take the mobo out to get it installed. I just did not want to risk it.

I have this installed on an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe board. I did not have problems getting this to screw down tightly on the CPU. Offers great cooling. Large fan moves a lot of air over the heatsink.
