Zalman VF700 AlCu VGA Cooler

The Zalman VF700-AlCu is a very impressive kit. One of the major complaints about previous implementations of video card heatpipe solutions from before was the skyrocketing temperatures sometimes to the point that cards would start to run with less stability. The VF700-AlCu combines low noise along with lower than stock temperatures. However, one missing feature is the ability to change fan speed on the fly. Whereas many other heatsinks come with a fanbus or and other trinkets to control rotational speed, this cooler does not. Instead it includes a connector to toggle between silent and loud mode that requires the fan to be unplugged. On the other hand, this card is compatibile with practically every card on the market (minus SiS, Matrox and a PCX series nVidia cards). The flexibility and the performance it provides impresses me a lot, and this product earns my recognition as being one of the best aftermarket coolers available.
The temperature difference reported between the stock heatsink and the Zalman is nothing short of astounding - this can be attributed to a few factors. Firstly, the stock heatsink and thermal pads are generally less than stellar. When removing the original heatsink, it was very obvious that the heatsink did not have very good contact with the GPU. Secondly, the Zalman requires you to apply (at the very least) their thermal compound, which should ensure better conduction of heat. Thirdly, the fan and the fins are much larger than the stock - to the point it will easily block off the expansion slot closest to the video card.
In our noise tests, we threw in a few other cards into the mix to gauge the amount of noise reduction gained from the VF700-AlCu. Subjectively, the VF700 in silent mode could not be heard in an open bench environment in our office from a distance of greater than 3 feet. Even though the noise levels of the different cards measured seemed similar, there was a noticeable difference in pitch, especially with the X700 Pro which sounded the most noisy. Even in loud mode, the Zalman sounds quieter than the other solutions - the pitch is lower than any of the standard heatsink/fan units. Zalman definitely continues their tradition of a low noise threshold with the VF700.
VF700-AlCu Ultra Quiet VGA Cooler does not generate noise or vibration in Silent Mode. Its pure Copper and Pure Aluminum base material ensures excellent heat dissipation. Fan installed in the heatsink(FHS) cools not only the VGA chipset and VGA RAM, but all other VGA components as well. Silent Mode and Normal Mode selection provided to accommodate the user's environment and preference.

I got this cooler 3 days ago from NCIX.com. It only took me few minutes to install and it is very quiet with excellent cooling power.

I purchased this to cool my 7600gt KO as the stock heatsink was too loud for my liking. Put it on silent mode, and I can't hear it. Cools very nicely. Idles around 44c and load is like 48c.

I'm REALLY happy i purchased this GPU cooler for my 6600GT. Cools it extremely well. Temps were around 60 on idle, now its around 46 degrees on idle. Haven't checked load temps but you can bet your bottom dollar its going to be lower than stock. Its also a silent cooler which is awesome because my stock fan was ridiculously loud. Overall i'm very pleased with this!

I purchased this to replace the stock cooler of my ATI Radeon 9800PRO AGP which was starting to make alot of noise. After restarting my computer with it installed, I had to check to make sure it was working because it was so quiet (in silent mode) and my card runs cooler too!

I installed the VF700-ALCU on my BFG 6600 GT OC to get rid of the excessive fan noise with the original cooler. The installation was very easy and although I wanted to keep the original ramsinks because they were bigger, I had replace them with the Zalman ones because of fan clearance. I am running the Zalman on "slow speed - 5V" and my card runs just as cool as with the original fan, plus it is almost silent. Big improvement and I can always speed it up if I need more cooling.

Bought this awhile ago to cool my 6600gt cause it kept overheating and freezing my system up during games.Eversince I installed this on it,all my problems went away.

On EVGA 6600GT AGP, this cooler dropped the temperature by about 10C idle (59C to 49C, according to rivatuner). The load temps dropped by more than 15C. On the EVGA, the heatsink sticks out by a bit more than 20cm, contrary to the 30cm posted by Zalman (see uploaded pics). The ram sinks will not fit, however the fan blows directly over them so it will not make a difference. If you keep the fan on silent mode, it's practially inaudible. Overall, great product.

I purchased the VF700 ALCU to replace the stock cooler on my EVGA 6600 GT APG because the stock cooler wasn't very good at cooling and it also had a very high pitched buzzing. I was worried about removing the stock heatsink as I had heard that most video card heatsinks are thermal compound glued onto the chipset, luckily the EVGA heatsink did not and it popped right off. After installing the Zalman heatsink I had no room to install the ramsinks. Overall the card is completely silent compared to my case fans in silent mode and has fulfilled the goal I set for it.

I installed this on a sapphire 9800 pro atlantis to replace a fan that was in the process of seizing up. Prior to installation we were getting artifacts and the heat sink was hot to the touch (the old fan was still spinning, sort of). It took a few minutes to install and it takes up at least one adjacent slot, probably two, but the results were worth it. The system is running properly and the fan is super quiet. It looks kind of weird with all of the heatsinks but it does an excellent job of cooling.
