Features    [ Edit | History ]
2 Dual-Heatpipes for optimal heat absorption
Using 2 u-shaped Dual-Heat-Pipes, the NC-U6 has sufficient capacity to reliably dissipate even the heat generated by overclocked high-end chipsets.

29 aluminium cooling fins for optimal heat dissipation
Thanks to a surface area of more than 500cm², the cooling fins dissipate the heat extremely fast - without the need of an additional fan!

Soldered joints for optimal heat-transfer
Unlike many other coolers, whose heatpipes are stuck to the base and the fins, the NC-U6 possesses high-grade soldered joints to ensure optimal heat transfer.

Easy installation on Intel and AMD mainboards
The NC-U6 comes with mounting parts for Intel and AMD mainboards and uses the existing fastening hooks or push-pin mounting holes.

Can be turned by up to 120° for maximum compatibility
In order to achieve maximum compatibility with mainboards, VGA cards and CPU coolers, the NC-U6 can be turned by up to 120°.

    Pros
Cooling efficiency, fits in shorter cases.
    Cons
I wasn't impressed with the mount. Northbridge coolers typically suffer in this regard, though.
    Summary
I'm using this on a Gigabyte E7AUM. This board has integrated graphics using a Geforce 9400 design.
I have it installed in a Antec Minuet, along with an Intel Core Duo E6300 45nm 2.8gHz processor.
This is a case with only an 80mm case fan quite far from the CPU and NB set up to exhaust air out of the case. The only other fans are the 80mm in the PSU and the stock Intel cooler on the CPU.
With the stock NB heatsink, the chipset was idling around 70 degrees Celsius and getting past 90 under load.
My initial testing after installing the Noctua U6 shows the same loads leading to a maximum temperature of 55 degrees.
    As for my complaints:
Installation of the mounting bracket to the heatsink requires a long and very thin Phillips-head screwdriver. I mostly keep multi-head screwdrivers about, so I had to make do with a thin flathead screwdriver. It is possible that this impacted the sturdiness of the installation, although I'm fairly certain I was able to tighten the bracket as tight as it ought to go, which leads to complaint two:
The heatsink seemed to be able to move about quite a bit on its push-pin springs. They were locked in all the way, but the heatsink could still be rotated. It was also rather painful adjusting the pins to the correct position - though it would have been slightly easier had the CPU cooler been removed.
Despite the slightly shoddy installation, it is performing very well (40 degree temperature drop, no fan!) and I would strongly recommend them to anybody using a short computer case and experiencing chipset heat issues.

    Pros
    Works great
    Cons
May interfere with larger cpu heatsinks
    Summary
I got this to replace the stock passive NB heatsink on my Gigabyte 650i mobo. The stock one is a massive copper piece, but this makes a huge differece. With my e4400 at 3.0 Ghz, the stock temps used to idle at 55 degrees celcius, and under load it would go to over 80! Now it idles at 40, and never sees over 62 degrees under load. The only problem I can see is clearance is tight with my Kingwin RVT12025, so if you have a heatsink bigger than that you may have an issue.

    Pros
    - lowered my EVGA 680i northbridge temps by 15-20'C compared to the old heatsink fanless
    -fairly easy install
    Cons
    - didn't fit perfectly on the board
    Summary
This thing is amazing. It lowered my northbridge temps by 15-20'C at idle from a whopping 63'C to 35'C compared to the original EVGA 680i heatsink without the super loud fan installed. You have to get this, it lowers temps drastically which preserves system life and increases performance.

    Pros
    - cools well
    - very small
    - no fans needed so 100% silent
    Cons
    - none
    Summary
Very small, very effective heatsink. Performs better than most forced-air heatsinks, even though it has no fan.

It turned out to be smaller than the stock heastink on my Gigabyte mobo, but pay attention to the dimension as it might interfere with video cards or large CPU heatsinks.

    Pros
    +Excellent Quality.
    +Modded Appearance.
    +Wicks away heat efficiently.
    +Works on variety of boards.
    Cons
-Could be taller, longer pipes, more fins.

    Summary
Well, I have this sitting on the NB of my EVGA 680i A1. Lubed up with Arctic Silver 5. It does an amazing job.

The heat dispersing fins get very hot which means it is doing it's job greatly. I attached an 80mm fan to rid the heat faster. This does a much better job than the stock nVidia branded HSF/heatpipe setup. I can't wait for the Arctic Silver 5 break-in to occur and drop my temps even further.

I currently have a Q6600 OC'd to 3GHz at 1.4vcore. My FSB is sitting at 1.5 Volts and the board temps sitting around 32'C load. Which is pretty good by overclockers standards on air cooling.

If your thinking of overclocking, buy this now and apply Arctic Silver 5 or Cermaic at its foundation and you will be all smiles. I am. :)

    Pros
Dual heatpipes remove a lot of heat
    Cons
    no fan included
    Summary
I use this as a CPU cooler on my N4L-VM DH motherboard with an intel T7400 chip. Does a great job especially using the fan from the stock cooling solution. I used it with arctic silver 5 and it dropped my temps by 10-15 degrees

    Pros
Silent, good performance, good looks, excellent documentation and website.
    Cons
    Large size
    Summary
I got one of these to replace the stock fan and sink on my Chaintech VNF4 Ultra because the fan started to annoyingly loud. This cooler looks really great; too bad I don't have a windowed case. As for performance, it seems to work quite well on my non-OCed system. I don't have a temp sensor on the nForce4 chip itself, but the mobo sensor shows low temps and it feels cool to the touch.

The size may make it difficult with certain configurations. I wanted to install it so that it is perpendicular to the airflow from my front case fan, but my video card requires that it go parallel, which is probably not the optimal cooling setup. It also comes very close to the SATA connectors on the mobo, which makes life a little more tricky.

One big difference with Noctua is that they did a proper job with their documentation and website. The instructions are pretty good; their website is well laid out and has lots of useful information. Their English is also flawless, which is a refreshing change.

    Pros
    -Fanless design
    -Well built
    -Good mounting
-Mine came with 3 different mounts
    Cons
    -None
    Summary
Bought this for my aging KT400 system which had a small heatsink and 40 mm fan. After having replaced the fan a couple times, and constantly having to oil it and put up with it's annoying grinding noise, I decided to replace it with a passive cooler. Installation of this was a breeze and once attached it felt quite secure. System is stable and running well. Unfortunately I don't have a temp sensor for my chipset so I don't know before and after temperatures, but I'm sure this is probably better performing than the stock setup. Very happy with this cooler and I will purchase it again in the future should I ever have another board that doesn't come factory with a heatpipe cooler.

    Pros
    -great cooling
-fits with my freezer 7 pro
    -quite cheap
    -silent
    Cons
-really hard to push down pins to fit..., slightly damaged my chipset
-push pins are slip quite easily
-base should be a bit thinner
    Summary
I love this chipset cooler except the fact that the little plastic pins kept on popping out on my mobo. I substituted them with the original gigabyte cooler pins which worked great. I am glad it fits nicely together on my 965p-ds3 with the freezer 7. I strapped on an 80mm fan and it's not even warm to the touch. I just wish the base would be a little bit thinner so it wouldn't almost break my chipset. Anyways if you put the MINOR problems away, it's a great cooler!

    No fan = no noise!
    Fit and finish excellent
    Cons
    none
    Summary
I love this thing! My chipset was getting very warm (MSI P6N SLI-FI) and I wanted something passive but effective. Thhis cooler is amazing and it takes up less footprint than the stock passive heatsink. These are a must buy!
