BEST-IN-CLASS FEATURES The D-Link Xtreme N™ Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is a draft 802.11n compliant device that delivers up to 14x faster speeds* and 6x farther range* than 802.11g while staying backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices. Connect the Xtreme N Gigabit Router to a cable or DSL modem and provide high-speed Internet access to multiple computers, game consoles, and media players. Create a secure wireless network to share photos, files, music, videos, printers, and network storage.
The Works with Vista Logo ensures compatability for your networking devices Powered by Xtreme N™ technology and equipped with three external antennas, this router provides superior wireless coverage for larger homes and offices, or for users running bandwidth-intensive applications. The DIR-655 also includes a 4-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit switch that connects Gigabit wired devices for enjoying lag-free network gaming and faster file transfers.
D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology - WHY INTELLIGENT QoS IS BETTER With some routers, all wired and wireless traffic, including VoIP, Video Streaming, Online Gaming, and Web browsing are mixed together into a single data stream. By handling data this way, applications like video streaming could pause or delay. With D-Link’s Intelligent QoS Technology, wired and wireless traffic is analyzed and separated into multiple data streams. These streams are then categorized by sensitivity to delay, so applications like VoIP, Video Streaming, and Online Gaming are given priority over Web browsing. This enables multiple applications to stream smoothly to your TV or PC. ADVANCED NETWORK SECURITY The Xtreme N Gigabit Router supports the latest wireless security features to help prevent unauthorized access, be it from over a wireless network or from the Internet. Support for WEP™, WPA™, and WPA2™ standards ensure that you will be able to use the best possible encryption regardless of your client devices. In addition, this Xtreme N router utilizes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to prevent potential attacks from across the Internet.
Delivering best-in-class performance, network security, and coverage, the Xtreme N Gigabit Router (DIR-655) is the ideal centerpiece for your wireless network in the home or office.
WHAT THIS PRODUCT DOES Create a wireless network to share high-speed Internet access with computers, game consoles, or media players from greater distances in your home or office.
XTREME N™ ROUTER BENEFITS
* Intelligent Wireless Prioritization Technology. * Xtreme N technology allows for farther home coverage*. * Secure your wireless network using advanced WEP™, WPA™, or WPA2™ encryption. * Easy to get started with D-Link’s new Quick Router Setup Wizard. * Supports Good Neighbor Policy – will not interfere with other wireless networks. * Backward compatible with 802.11g and 802.11b devices including game consoles and digital media players.
* Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11g and draft 802.11n specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, buildings materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate. Environmental factors will adversely affect wireless signal range. Wireless range and speed rates are D-Link RELATIVE performance measurements based on the wireless range and speed rates of a standard Wireless G product from D-Link. Maximum throughput based on D-Link draft 802.11n devices.

I picked this up almost a year ago on sale. It was a huge upgrade from my old wired router. The wireless N and port forwarding worked like a charm and the user interface was really easy to use. I never upgraded the firmware so I don't know if that will cause or fix any issues, but I get some sporadic disconnects when I'm using the wired connection.

Stay away from this POS. Got home, couldnt get the router to connect wired to two main desktop, was gonna return, plug it into 3comp(laptop) with orginal firmware, finally get it to connect wired to the laptop.Wireless always can connect to the router gateway.I got disconnected daily in the morning, some day hardset will bring internet back, other day no luck.tried everything, manually DSN,dns relay off,etc etc.I hope my new one works better, or im gonna have a good time breaking the shi3t out of it.Caused me times and money.Even the crappy 2wire gateway telus didnt give me this much trouble.

This router has worked out great for me. In spite of a few connection drops here and there, it works has worked flawlessly. It was my first router, so once i figured out all the lingo in the setup, setup was a breeze.

My old dlink 624 died, so was in the market for new router. This got good reviews so got one. My new laptop is N which has excellent range compared to G. I tried using the set up disc but gave up, I thought I would try it but cancelled half way through and set up through the browser, easier. No dropped signals, hav'nt tried gaming yet but will and from what I have read it should do very well.

Got this to replace a wired dlink/wireless linksys setup I had, mostly for the gigabit connectivity to my NAS. So far so good. Setup was a breeze, and I was impressed by the amount of advanced features that let me tweak my network.

Alright here's my experience with this router. I plugged it in and setup my basic home network on this router which consists of 2 wireless connections, 2 wired connections and a usb printer. Out of the box and while it still worked I noticed a new firmware update. I proceeded to flash the device and everything was fine. My wife noticed the wireless laptop was having connection issues which I figured may have been the qos setting in the router and nothing more. I went to work and low and behold the router started rebooting by itself and all light flashing on the router... well more like flickering. I attempted to get into the web based interface with no luck at all as the router was rebooting every 30sec or locking up and needing a hard power-off (reboot/reset). In any event it took less than 48 hours for this router to die in an air conditioned room. I've read other peoples reviews on this model and the revision doesn't seem to matter. Mine was an A4 revision. When the thing worked it worked great for wired and I'm sure the wireless would also be great give more configuring with the router. My experience with routers and IT is extensive as that's was I do in the military. This router it highly rated for the ones that work... My only grip will be the high rate of "lemon's" dlink has put out for this model. I have always liked dlink routers and I hope the RMA I get doesn't disappoint... if it does then i'll go with the dlink825. Buyer beware with this router. I would not suggest this unit to anyone who has limited router knowledge due to the fact of it needing to be "proven". Also the usb port on the router requires software on the connecting devices in order to utilize the device on the usb port. I though this fact was unfortunate and will likely stick with my print "server" unit. If you look on dlink's website there are many technical support posts in the companies forums related to this router. Basically, if you get one that isn't defective it will work great. I'm giving this product 2/5 stars because of my experience... if it worked better and I didn't have to ship the thing back out of my wallet for the rma that would be better. (That was with the extra shipping insurance btw)

I upgraded this from my Linksys WR54GL wireless g router and so far this was easier to setup and configure than that. I haven't really tested the true potential of this router yet but the prioritizing feature is really nice.
