Windows XP OS ran smoothly and stably on our low-powered system; boot-up takes a zippy 35 seconds, and folders and applications open quickly. With Wi-Fi on, the battery lasted 2 hours and 5 minutes while I performed a mix of Web browsing, e-mailing, and YouTube viewing. When I played a WMV movie from an SD card with Wi-Fi on—but idle—the battery lasted 2 hours. Could be better.       » READ MORE

So far this is great, boots up fast, all the software you need is preloaded. The size and weight are wonderful. Only drawback I have experienced is hooking into a wireless network on the road, it is not easy and straightforward, unlike a windows-based laptop. Sometimes I can get on a network, other times I get the dreaded "pending". Check the forums this seems to be major problem with EEEs running Linux. Other than this I would buy another one.      » READ MORE

I have to say I was VERY surprised how quickly I liked this machine. I was concerned that the small screen and the tiny keyboard would be a big problem. But the screen looks great, you can easily see details and the colors work well at 32bit. The 640x480 screen can easily be used, but the 800x600 mode is even better.       » READ MORE

I love my eeePC. I wish I had one when I was in college a few years ago. Most of the time I don't need a full, powerful computer. I just want to use the internet, chat, email, or word processing. That's what I bought this thing for.       » READ MORE

I definitely love my little laptop. I have just purchased a 16 gb card for it and a 2gb memory stick, now it should rock. I love the size of it and the battery life is awesome. Having 3 usb ports is a real asset.      » READ MORE

A decent little unit for e-mail/browsing and most other basic uses. It actually plays my recorded TV very well at least in Windows. I would like it to have at least a little more storage space 6GB or more would be good for the standard model of the next generation, but Windows XP and various programs all fit in the supplied 4GB. I would suggest anyone who buys this to get at least 1-2GB of RAM as it does make a difference in the included Linux distro and in Windows.      » READ MORE

Quite the handy little computer. Ran with the default OS for a week or so just to get a hang of it, but then ran into a couple of odd pieces of hardware (a bluetooth adapter and my iPaq hw6955 in USB tether mode) that only have drivers for XP. So I wandered over to http://www.eeeuser.com/ to read through the forums about installing XP. Following the instructions on the forums, I spent a bit of time paring down my XP install to save space, and then got XP up and running in just under 2 hours. Even with the stock 512 meg of RAM and the underclocked CPU I found XP to be very quick and capable. Coupled with a 4 gig SDHC card, I've been able to watch divx TV shows and movies, listen to music, read ebooks, email, do some light web surfing, and play a few games all without having to lug around a heavy or expensive laptop.       » READ MORE

We are planning a few weeks in Italy in May and I take a digital camera along with lenses and other required photo equipment. I also take along a laptop. Well for the amount of walking and traveling while we're going to be in Italy, I wanted to lighten my load a bit. So when I saw the Asus EEE PC, I thought I would try it out. So I bought it just days before we spend 11 days in Mexico. I took along my camera/laptop backpack and it was much lighter with the Asus EEE PC computer.       » READ MORE

This laptop has so far pleasantly surprised me. While it's no powerhouse, it doesn't feel crippled or limiting either. Even with the stock 512MB RAM, the included Xandros Linux OS was quite responsive.       » READ MORE
