Robust Features Coupled with Easy Management

  • Serves files easily
  • Backs up data effortlessly
  • Streams music and video quickly
  • Shares printers with ease
  • Works with Windows®, Mac®, and Linux®

ReadyNAS™ NV+ was designed specifically for home offices, small businesses and workgroups. Never before has there been available a cost-conscience Network Attached Storage (NAS) appliance packed with robust high-end server features, including Gigabit Ethernet, hardware RAID, system monitoring capabilities and built-in backup. ReadyNAS couples out of the box deployment and easy management with robust file serving and data redundancy.

Easy Deployment and Management
With an easy web browser interface and setup wizard, ReadyNAS can be configured with minimal effort — saving you valuable time. Traditional file servers can take hours to configure and, even once up and running, don’t have built-in system monitoring and email alerts. Available with ReadyNAS, automatic alerts give you the peace of mind that things are running smoothly because if trouble should arise, you will be notified.

RAID
Supporting hardware accelerated RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) levels 0, 1, 5 and ReadyNAS’s own X-RAID™ technology, ReadyNAS ensures full data redundancy with protection against hardware failure – something previously only available in high end servers. If one drive fails, the data volumes can still be rebuilt with the remaining drives. Without RAID, once a failure occurs, you risk losing all of the data stored on the drive.

X-RAID Technology
ReadyNAS’s patent pending X-RAID technology automates the volume expansion for you as you scale from 1 HDD to 4 HDD. Most NAS devices on the market aren’t future-proof. You can’t add or replace disks for larger capacity. ReadyNAS allows you to start with one disk, then add the additional drives over time, without reconfiguring the system and shuffling the data. Additionally, as disk capacity becomes larger and cheaper, you can replace all four disks, oneby- one, while X-RAID automatically manages the RAID details for you.

Backup
A sound backup strategy is important and relying on manually copying your important files is tedious and error-prone. With the help of EMC® Retrospect® backup and recovery software, you can set automatic backups of all of your network clients – whether they are Windows, Mac or Linux – to your ReadyNAS. Additionally, ReadyNAS includes an integrated backup manager that enables one-button backup from your NAS appliance to external USB HDD for offsite rotation, or to remote servers, if needed.

File Serving and Media Streaming
ReadyNAS is a single centralized source for all of your digital data. The variety of digital devices and hard drives that currently house the data in your home and office can make locating a particular file quite arduous. ReadyNAS can bring all of that data together for fast and easy file serving to multiple clients simultaneously. If it’s video or other high-definition media you are working with, you can use your ReadyNAS for streaming to multiple devices at the same time.

Advanced System Design
The industrial design and ultra compact form factor of the ReadyNAS makes it perfect for any home office or small business. Standing only eight inches tall and five inches wide, it can fit in any entertainment center or on any desk without taking up much space or making much noise. ReadyNAS also offers low power consumption and a special energy-saving mode that allows you to automate startup and shutdown.

I Setup 4x 2TB Drives in it with Xraid (when drives were still cheap ^_^). It found one of my drives bad, and I replaced it. Once all said and done it actually operates pretty well, the only beef I have with it would be the webpage for managing the thing... its not exactly fast or really well laid out. But your only in there to really set it up the first time. Also the fan can get a bit noisy.

All things considered there are probably better units out there, but on a sale this one is pretty good too.

I will not recommend this to anyone, the unit seems to have a lot of software issues and Netgear is slow to fix them. (Read More)

This is overall a very good unit. Does what it's supposed to do. I use it to stream 1080p videos over the network to a media player and it does that without a hitch. Fast transfer times too. Easy to upgrade the memory (whoever's interested), although there's not much point in doing that; benchmarks show that you *might* get ~5% increase in performance which won't make a difference, as the unit already performs well.

Took overnight (6-8hrs) to initialize 6TB in X-RAID.

Took ~1.5 hrs to re-initialize after power failure. (Read More)

Before I got this I had (still use) a D-Link DNS-323 and a D-Link DNS-343 and I have to say that I LOVE this netgear device. Its A LOT more stable then the D-Link products I have. On an average week I will have to restart the dlink devices at least twice to get them working again. I have not had to restart the Netgear since I put it on the shelf.

I bought this equipment to have a really stable and security of all our familly pictures, movies, video, musique, files, etc... But dont forget this is not a backup solution. But about this thing this is really easy to make a backup on an external USB drive, of anything with a facilities integrate in this solution. There is also a really great users forum to talk about differents things for problems or discussion about thi solution. Very simple to use even for a newbee. I bought it at 290$ with pricematch, really good deal. Dont think more go for it !!! (Read More)

I had been in need of a NAS for a while as my main PC was crashing too much and I did not have a decent backup solution. I got the ReadyNAS NV+ with 2x750GB drives and added 2 more to give me 3TB (2.1TB effective). This was around January, 2009.
