When I got my surround sound system, I plugged it in to the SPDIF port and could not get any audio from the PC. Only recently months later, did I get a sound card with another Optical port. After testing the board and the port, I determined that the Optical port was broken the day I bought this board. It was a huge pain to buy the extra sound card just to test it against the SPDIF port on the board.

Good board. you will have to update the bios or purchase 2 processors like i did i did one lga 775 e8500 and one that the mobo website says the basic bios supports so that you can install the update .. what a hassle no other issues however

Overall this is a great board. I haven't even updated the BIOS yet and its running like a charm. I have a Core 2 Quad 8200 in there with a XFX Geforce 9800 Graphics card and 4GB or RAM. This motherboard reconized it all on initial startup and from than on had no issues. I plan updating the BIOS and seeing how much more stable it will be. So far no crashes, no video glitches, nothing. I recommend this Motherboard.

Constant video corruption that isn't fixed even with the latest BIOS updates. I thought this board would have been good,but these problems are horrific. Sometimes if a game is running for an hour or more, out of no where the screen will get glitchy and the computer will freez; seems like over heating but its not, its a bug with the mobo and chipset.
Put my system together in less than 1 hour. Connectors are layout well so there is plenty of space for fans and air circulation above the CPU and video card. The onboard sound card features an automatic troubleshooting to assist you in plugging in the correct channels. Lots of USB connections. Used a Q9400 and the BIOS did not detect the proper CPU. Using PC8500 1066MHz RAM and it underclocked it to 800MHz initially. I've been using ASUS motherboards for more than 10 years without a problem.
Stay away from this product unless you love to try and get things to work. This product has many many problems and noone seems to be getting any customer support from Asus. Video corruption, poor SATA RAID performance, lockups, does not like SATA optical drives... It's a very long list. Stay away.

.. careful, for those of you having OCZ RAM, watch the default voltage settings... the default settings don;t supply enough voltage causing the system to crash. After fixing both of these issues, its been running fast and without any issues

There are many who say the 780i is flawed from concept or is only a tie over till the next board, its not as good as the 790i... well maybe so, but if you are shopping for a mid priced performance board, since the bios update, this has been solid for me. Usual Asus perks, ease of use, overclocking settings, and great layout on the board.
I will probably not ever use the 3 way SLI unless they make it an option for other card types, but if you 2 way sli this board leaves the center slot open, which improves airflow across the GPU's and also leaves teh PCI slot more accessible than other SLI boards.

Work very well with Q6600 and XP Pro SP2 X64. Few persons have problem with quad core but me NCIX have installed entire computer for $25 and he work very well. I recommanded to do install computer by NCIX team. The job is very fine.
