Features    [ Edit | History ]
The 245T monitor has a 24-inch, 16:10 wide-screen format, with a 178/178-degree viewing angle. The viewing angle is achieved via Samsung's proprietary Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA), the latest technology advancement in liquid crystal cell structure, for an improved user viewing experience. The 245T monitor's ultra-wide viewing area can support a range of multi-window applications, thereby helping to improve work efficiency and reducing the need for two monitors.

Furthermore, the 245T model features a high 1920 x 1200 resolution, allowing the monitor to deliver clearer and more precise images. The 245T monitor's image quality is also enhanced by Samsung's MagicContrast which offers a super high contrast ratio and an extra-wide viewing angle that's ideal for providing detailed onscreen images. With the 3000:1 super-high dynamic contrast ratio, it's easy to read or view content on the monitor's screen. The 245T model also comes equipped with MagicSpeed, which gives users an ultra-fast 6ms response time (gray to gray), making the monitor ideal for computer gaming and multimedia-driven applications such as motion or streaming video. A faster response time provides better performance of motion video, and produces smoother edges, clearer images and a more natural image response.

These features make the 245T monitor an ideal choice for a range of high-end commercial applications that require clear and precise images, such as CAD/CAM fine-detailed drawings, web and graphic design and desktop publishing.

Pros
+Big
+Wide viewing angles
+Great Color
+Decent Response times
+Even color and good blacks
Cons
-Expensive
-Sucks a bit more power then most 24's
-Some inverse ghosting (You get used to it, but at first it is very strange)
Summary
Got this when i wanted a bigger screen and was sick of bad TN viewing angles. The screen works great with everything i use it for, but there is some inverse ghosting that all S-PVA's have. All in all a good buy

Pros
Reliable. No problem after over 2 years of continuous daily use.
Cons
None so far
Summary
Upgraded from a 17 inch Viewsonic and it was fantastic. Great for watching movies, but also convenient to display 2 pages side by side when viewing documents. Have not detected any dead pixels nor non-uniformity so far and the color is still vibrant and true.

Pros
Excellent Color. Even Backlight. Good size.
Cons
Noticeable lag and ghost on gaming.
Summary
My current setup includes a number of dual-monitor workstations, with Samsung 930B 19", 2253BW and 226BW 22"W and the 245T. A couple of BenQ's were recently retired from use.
I also have a LaCie Blue Eye Pro, so the monitor has been properly calibrated.

Out of the box, the 245T was quite good. As usual the brightness and contrast were set very high and were easily twice the 120cd/m2 I normally run at in my office.

After calibration, the unit was exceptionally accurate. The deviation on Gamma, Kelvin, cd/m2 and Color Accuracy was very small, and the best of all of my monitors. The 245T hits the AdobeRGB color space almost perfect.
In a side-by-side dual-monitor setup with the 226BW which is IMHO one of the best 22"W models available, the 245T is noticeably better in all areas. When viewing images of a wide variety on the two panels, the gamut and color depth difference is very noticeable.

The 245T has excellent color quality and reproduction, and its backlight is more evenly lit than any flat panel I've owned to-date.

I strongly recommend having your monitor calibrated. Owning a LaCie or other calibration hardware is definitely worth the money if you are using your computer for professional or business use.

The 245T does definitely have noticable lag and ghosting when compared to TN monitors such as the 226BW. As a video game developer, this was something I noticed immediately.
It does not rule the 245T out from game use, as it is still acceptable, but if your main computer use is gaming, I would recommend a TN panel instead.

Pros
Fantastic colours, Excellent contrast, Nice bezel
Cons
USB ports awkward to reach, On/Off LCD light very bright
Summary
I love this monitor, just love love love it! I upgraded from a 19-inch 191T Plus and I was happy with that so I wanted to stick with Samsung. I have one stuck pixel (in blue) but with a screen this size it is no big deal.

I am working with Adobe graphics programs now via classes at BCIT so the colour depth will be much appreciated. Out of the box it had pretty good calibration and I didn't need to do much to get it pretty accurate.

I played a little FarCry last night and I noticed no ghosting at all. I have it hooked up to a 8800GTX via DVI and all seems good in that respect. I haven't tried a more demanding game yet, but it looks great to me.

I highly recommend getting this display over a non H-PVA panel. It is worth it.

Pros
Inexpensive compared to S-IPS alternatives; brilliant picture and viewing angle; inputs galore; 4-way stand operation is quiet and smooth; brightness of power LED is user-controllable
Cons
Slight buzzing sound; higher price, heat output and power consumption compared to inexpensive TN options
Summary
As one of Samsung's few S-PVA options, I can highly recommend the 245T. I wish there were smaller, less expensive S-PVA options, but 20/22" LCDs are now mainstream (read: cheap and nasty).

Most of my day is spent in SSH sessions and text editors when I'm not doing audio production, so I'm not looking for lightning-fast response times, nor am I a graphics professional. But I do spend an awful lot of time staring at my monitors. I bought two of these and have been ecstatic ever since they arrived a month ago. The picture quality is in the same class as the 23" aluminum Apple Cinema Displays (S-IPS), and I mean that in a very positive way since I'm not a gamer.

Having two widescreen monitors on your desk means you're rarely looking at either panel straight on, emphasizing the terrible viewing angles inherent in a lot of TN panels. I'm happy to report that even with 2 of these monsters on my desk, viewing angles are excellent--exactly what you'd expect from S-PVA panels.

As many of the reviews say, yes, 245Ts buzz. Though I'm very sensitive to noise, the noise is not a distraction when I'm working, even though I'm actually listening to two buzzing displays. It's the sort of thing you might notice after it disappears, but not while you're busy working. Think of the buzzing as the sound of having saved $600 by not choosing an expensive Apple or Eizo S-IPS display instead.

I lusted after the Apple Cinema Displays (way too expensive) and considered the Lenovo L220x (smaller; cheaper) but the nominal price difference, extra heat output, and lack of other inputs were more than enough to make me choose the 245Ts instead. Another reason to buy Samsung: Netlink/NCIX does a lot of business with them, so warranty exchange is less hassle if something goes wrong right off the bat.

Compared to my old SyncMaster 710T and my better 740N/cheaper 740N, the colour saturation is brilliant.

I expected the composite RGB and S-Video inputs to look terrible, even with a relatively high-resolution source like a Wii, but I'm happy to report that the output is pretty good. The HDMI and Component inputs are that much better, of course, barring any scaling issues (see the reviews).

No dead pixels on either unit. Yes, I caved and bought the dead pixel warranty.

And to the gamers who complain the 245T isn't good enough, I can't imagine what you're talking about. All the Commodore 64 emulators I tried look great on these. :-)

The upshot: they're not perfect, but they're darned close.

Pros
Image quality, Size, Various input options
Cons
Prize, Back-light bleeding, some ghosting in FPS
Summary
Now let me start of by saying the Image Quality of this baby is amazing. Colors are vibrant, image is sharp and super bright. Contrast is great too. I did not find the input lag that so many reviews talk about noticeable at all but there is heavy ghosting in fast moving games, not an issue for me as i did not get this for playing on. I love the various inputs, HDMI, SVHS etc and the usb hub is great to have on the screen but its a bit awkward to use as it is very easy to tilt the screen while plugging in a usb device into the out of place hub. My one quirk with this monitor is back-light bleeding in the corners. I dont know if all monitors of this model have the same intensity of it but mine has, specially in the top right corner quite the back light bleed. Its only noticeable when the screen is very dark or while watching movies with the black bars on top and bottom. Overall a great piece of technology but for the price i would have liked better prevention of the back-light bleeding. To hear the buzzing sound others have talked about i need to put my head to the back of the screen, so not an issue but one word of caution is the level of heat this baby emits from the back. I would not use this screen in very hot environments as it gives of more heat then my pc (e7200 s 9x400)

Pros
Beautiful S-PVA panel
Cons
Gotta pay to play
Summary
This monitor is worth every penny. Bright, great contrast, spectacular colour, no backlight bleed, a lift/tilt/swivel/pivot stand and all the inputs you'll ever need. The response time is more than adequate to avoid blurring in games, scrolling, fast motion etc.

Pros
perfect picture and perfect display thanks to p-sva
just as good with SVGA as with DVI-D
multiple inputs
picture in picture
Cons
draws more power than some of the other monitors on the market
Summary
This monitor replaces a LG 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor (W2452V). The Samsung SyncMaster 245T blows the LG away. The difference is night and day. I highly recommend this monitor for anybody who needs true colours for photo editing.

Incredible colors
High Contrast
Many inputs
Cons
Not cheap
Summary
This is one of the best Pc monitor I saw in a long time. The black is really black. The build quality is really good, the frame feels solid but not too heavy. No dead pixels. The colors are vibrant. I did not experience the buzzing noise some users are reporting. I highly recommend it!

Pros
Amazing color, and a lot of different inputs.
Was debating between this and 2408, but Dell 2408 got so many netgaive review.
Cons
Nothing to complainMaybe make it cheaper?
Summary
Upgrade from Dell SP2008, what a big different. Tried with XBOX360, much better contrast in black area. With the SP2008, I can only see a piece of black area without any details. Bought this monitor with the express coverage, but it doesn't have any problem. No dead pixels, light pixels. serious back-light bleeding. I am happy with it.

Comment: This review is for two monitors, the second being the 245T. They have run the monitor through lots of tests. One of the main selling features of the 245T is the wide colour gamut.

Comment: Positive review (8/10) The lowest score was for value (6/10), but now that the price has come down since this monitor was reviewed (Nov 9, 2007), I would think the value score would go up to a 7 or 8.

Comment: We like to think that after spending over $600 on a 24" LCD, users will get a high-quality experience. That may not always be the case, but at least with the Samsung 245T we have no qualms with recommending it as a very good 24" LCD. Perhaps a better recommendation however would be to try and purcha
