~Looks great (illuminated ROG logo)
~Tri-SLi
~1600 FSB
~Luxuries such as the EL I/O panel
~Various Asus features (more on this)
~Easy to use BIOS
Cons
~Simply does not perform as I was expecting (on air)
~Features like the voltage minder LED's are entirely useless.
~The BIOS features are somewhat dumbed down
Summary
I have very mixed feelings about this board, but it's difficult to know that the issues I'm having are from the board and not other components.

Here's the build:

3X EVGA E-GEFORCE GTX 280
3X Western Digital Velociraptor WD3000GLFS in Raid 0
1X Lian Li Armorsuit PC-P60
2X 1GB OCZ XTC Platinum OCZ3P2000EB2GK DDR3
ASUS Striker II Extreme 790I Ultra
Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 Quad Yorkfield 3.2GHZ 1600FSB
Powered by:
Corsair HX1000W CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX 20/24PIN ATX 80A 12V Afc Modular Power Supply W/ 140MM Fan
Cooled by:
Thermalright ULTRA-120 Extreme Black Edition 6 Heatpipe Cooler

The RAM cannot run stable over 1333 Mhz (It's rated for 2000 mhz), period. I've ran Memtest and the ram is fine, but it's unstable on P95 after less than 5 minutes above 1333, regardless of voltage. I haven't bothered trying it with looser than suggested timings as they're already sloppy. So much for 2 phase DDR3 being able to overclock well!

The processor will not run stable over 3.6 at any voltage up to 1.44v (at which point heat is an issue). In the end I'm stuck running at stock speeds. What was this about "The Ultimate Gaming/Overclocking Platform"?! I don't mind paying ~$500 for a top of a line motherboard *as long as it performs in line with it's price*. Granted, as you can see I'm currently running on air. I have a "Coolit Systems Freezone Elite MTEC" on the way so hopefully that will greatly increase the OC ability of the CPU. I'm resistant to using WC with the fusion cooler; on my last rig I used 100% WC, NB SB CPU and 2 8800 Ultras hooked up to a 360mm rad. The results were less than inspiring, no matter what the configuration. I bought this system with the intent on running it on air and believed I could still achieve decent stable overclocks. That has not been the case. Looks like I'll be switching to WC/TEC hybrid.

In the end, I would have rather gone with an EVGA 790i FTW. If you are looking at this board and not planning on using the WC function of the fusion block, don't waste your money. Go for the EVGA 790i FTW.

Pros
This board does it all.
Excellent for tweeking and oc'ing!
Great layout, very easy to work with wiring.
Very stable haven't had any issues that were board related.
Lots of Sata connectors...
Top quailty material and workmanship!
SLI Ultra
790i
DDR3
Cons
Not a biggy but would have liked a third on board USB connector for a front panel card reader.
Summary
You get what you pay for.
Yep it is a bit pricey, but is a breeze to work with and does it all effortlessly.
I like the built in lightshow which, like everything you can think of is configurable through the bios.

Asus quality at it's best IMO ~

Pros
All of the amazing features
Cons
tight fit for the CPU cooler
Summary
after having this for more than a month I would be reluctant to buy it if i were you. It has alot of features but none of the utilities work properly. even downloading the latest versions and still nothing. to overclock it is supposed to be easy but it crashes on any serious attempt. it is way to expensive aswell. i am happy with it but that is only because i like spending alot of time troubleshooting.
i would read info on ASUS support forums and compare it with EVGA support forums before going with the ASUS This review was modfied by poster t 05-22-08 02:31 PM

Pros
runs cool
fast
up-to-date
Cons
price
DDR3(need to spend alot of money)
Summary
the mono is awsome but because of the price i proably will step down to get a 780i instead of the 790i.

Pros
Integrated water-cooling. Excellent board layout. Puh-lenty of extras and doodads in the accessory box. Includes Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts.
Cons
High price. Prepare to buy expensive DDR3 memory.
Summary
Kick-ass motherboard beats up on most other mainboards in the high-end market. Strongly suggest buying other boards if you don't want to pay for DDR3 memory. The wife bought this for me as a birthday gift and I love every bit of it.
