In my Antec 900 case the card runs at 39 degrees idle. It works well for me however it's not the best card for overclocking.

Purchased this with a Corsair Tx750 for $199.99 bundle which is an amazing price. Using this in a HTPC and it is good enough for some gaming also on a 67" Sammy. At the bundle price it can't be beat. It is also relatively quiet so once inside the TV cabinet it is totally silent. I would prefer a double slot for better venting.

I purchased this card for a Home Theatre PC, as this was the only x8xx from either ATi or nVidia that would fit. Being an HTPC, silence is critical, but this cad is currently by far the loudest fan I have. The cooler is effective, but it has a high-pitched sound emanating from it. Performance in video decoding is quite good, and what little gaming I've tried so far has auto set to full maximum. I intend to replace the stock cooler with a Zalman VF1000.

Solid card. Probably the best bang for the buck out there. Really like the dual slot cooler on this version, as it keep the card running cool; however this thing is loud! Having a deathly silent pc myself, and putting this together for a friend made me notice the huge difference. I tried tinkering with the fan program, but it was no use. Turns out that sound was the fun running on its lowest setting, it gets louder as it spins faster!

I bought this card in a combo deal alongside a Corsair TX750 watt power supply for $200. What a deal! So the Palit 4850 worked out to be only $125 so I was very happy indeed. Happy until I tried to overclock it. This card loses contact with the motherboard and has some real issues when trying to overclock it. Temperatures are never over 59 C at the lowest fan profile of 6% yet the card never bumps up to the 15% rpm which the bios is supposed to force at 60C temps. Palit it would seem have limited the voltages severely on this card to address heat issues which really dosn't make sense as this non-reference cooling solution seems to be doing a good job of keeping heat at bay. This is an OK card at around the $150 range but if your planning on overclocking I warn you that Palit has some very cheap VRM and memory chips on this card so your OC'ing potential is severely limited. The fan on this card even at it's lowest fan setting of 6% is undoubtedly the loudest of my 8 case fans so be prepared for some high pitched whining full time and if this card somehow bumps to 15% be prepared to reach for the earplugs.

People say this card runs hot, but the bigger fan keeps it cool. I can hear it running under my desk but my last card was a 9600XT so the higher noise is expected. It's not loud enough to annoy you but you know when the computer is turned on.

This card is great. The 4850 series has without a doubt some of the best value on the market to date, and this particular variant with the aftermarket cooler on it would be a top choice for me. The extra slot wasn't a big deal for me - the better heat dissipation was worth it especially at (basically) no extra cost. The brand's good, the drivers are great, I'd definitely buy another if I needed it.

This is a great card. Dual slot cooler. Runs 40C at idle. I haven't had a video card run that cool ever! Quiet - about the same as my old Diamond 2600XT. I am running it using a 400W Fortron Source power supply without any problem.

Good card, the palit has excellent fan on it. The new catalyst drivers works wonders. Great performance for such a low price-tag, highly recommended if you dont gave at high resolution 1920x1200+.

Overall great card. It does run a bit warm and run a little louder then i am use to. Overall for the price you can't go wrong with this card. I would recommend it. update to catalyst 8.9 to fix some of the bugs lingering in some games. Make a profile so you can toggle between crossfire and non crossfire modes.
