What can I say? It's a simple mounting system that applies much more force than a push-pin system would use. It helps for better contact to the CPU (good for knocking a few degrees off) and it helps your mobo cope with the weight of these massive tower coolers.
bought this thinking i could use it to mount my xigma sd1283 onto my i7 but it doesnt come with the proper pieces, there is another kit you need to buy so dont make the same mistake as me, as for the mount it does what it needs to and takes less strain off the mobo. just make sure you buy the right one

Helps increase mounting pressure, allowing for lower temperatures. Also reduces the strain placed on the mobo by spreading the force out across a larger area. Easy to install and quite forgiving even if you mess up a bit. I'd recommend the Thermalright backplate since it's cheaper, but it's often out of stock, while this one isn't.

This kit made installing my Xigmatek HDT-S1283 heat sink a breeze - especially with my Coolermaster HAF-932 case, which has a hole in the mobo tray for heatsink mounting kits. It also helps make sure your heatsink is on properly without stressing your motherboard.
Bought it for my Xigmatek HDT-RS1283 instead of the Thermalright Bolt-thu kit. Was very easy to install, especially with the HAF's hole in the motherboard tray. Definitely a worthwhile purchase for coolers that have pushpins or those that need to remove the cooler.

I used this mounting kit for the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, since the provided push pins are some what weak. I'd recommend this to those who will be mounting and remounting a heat sink more than once and for those who want the extra sense of security.

Buy it, makes the mounting rock solid and protects your Mobo. Installation was a breeze. If I want a more serious HSF in the future this is always going to be there for me (using the S963).

This is a great mounting kit, simple and effective. I had coolers on and off many times using this kit with out any problems. Having said that, I did receive one backplate that only had three holes finished and threaded. One somehow got missed. Luckily I had a spare. I am not sure what I should do with that one as it was given to me. I could try to thread it but it is a fine thread and it would be easier to just replace it.
