Experience: 9 Months
- Cheap and affordable
- Runs Crysis
- Hot
- Loud
I got the Red PCB of this card from here on NCIX a long ago and it was the best card for the price at the time. It runs everything that's out there right now still as long as you don't set it to 1080p res. and with AAs off.

Experience: 5 Months
Skull Design looks cool
Single Slot Card
Maxed out on every game except crysis (Its a benchmark not a game =P )
Power Consumtion
I bough this card in January to get rid of my 3870 and boy am I glad!

I can run all games maxed *1920x1080p with all settings on VERY HIGH/ULTRA HIGH depending on game.

I run Crysis Warhead completely maxed (minus AA) and get smooth 35-45 FPS!

Experience: 6 Months
Plays em all!
None so far ok not true the size, its HUGE!
Any game cranked up to the max including Crysis, is awesome. On top of Crysis I have played GRID, COD 4 and COD 5 (COD 4 looked better) Gears of War (looked so good I played it again), Tomb Raider (the last one and Lara looked lovely too bad the game sucks), Madden 08, need I go on?

Oh I connected my monitor with a DVI cable and it looks INCREDIBLE!!! Movies in HD, Games in HD. Can't go wrong!

Best part about the card was all this at STOCK SETTINGS!!!

No problems! So sexy I want 2!!

smooth graphics
good value
big card as usual
This hd4850 card is a good value and good performance for gaming. COD4 runs smoother in multiplayer with an average of 70 fps. I`ll probably buy another card for crossfire when price starts to decline.

When and if it works, I guess thats a good thing.
I got a DOA defective card, with blue and red lines all across the screen. The second replacement had the HS fan not working at all! 2 bad cards for one customer = NOT GOOD. Enough said.
Well, I got one of these just to find out after building my first gaming rig in the last 5 years that this video card was defective. It actually boots, but I saw blue and red lines all across the screen, and in some instances, you cannot even read whats going on.

The second replacement worked fine, but the fan was stuck into the HS AND plastic cover so it did not even turn. It tried to, but it just wont make it. Thats worse than a bad video coz it can fry the card if someone played games with it. That I fixed myself after taking out the HSF assembly and putting things in the right way. I also put some MX2 in place of the what seems to be some low quality thermal paste on the GPU. Put back everything and the card now works like a charm, and the fan is working 100% without problems.

Have not played any games yet, I hope the good graphics will make me a little happier.

Bang for buck performance
Single-slot cooling
None yet
I've played Portal, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with all settings maxed at 1280x1024. I don't know what FPS I got, but I really don't care as everything's so smooth! I left it running at stock settings, but I haven't checked how hot it gets when I'm gaming. Honestly, I don't know how one would check. I looked at the Catalyst wizard-thing a few times before and after gaming and it says the fan was running at 37% and the highest temperature I saw was 41'C. Those temperatures might've cooled down a bit after I closed the game for a few minutes, so I still have no idea how hot it really gets.

I was looking at the 8800GT when I was shopping around, but found that the 9800GTX+ and HD 4850 were now in that price segment that the 8800GT/9800GT stood in about a year ago, so I decided to look between those two. The sale before the boxing day sale had the HD 4850 at $180 or something after rebate and that offer was just too good to refuse over all the 9800GTX+'s still at $200+.

I might change my rating to 5 stars if I find that its temp isn't too ridiculous like some reviews I've read (60-70'C).

Better than my 8800GT. Fast for the price.
A bit hot. Fan a bit loud in my case.
This is a great mid-range card. I intend to purchase another one for Crossfire performance in some games (COD4 comes to mine), but even one by itself is surprisingly fast. As an example; in Oblivion I can actually max every setting with this card, whereas my 8800gt struggled when shadows, and distant grass were turned on.

At full burn this card can get a bit hot, and the fan is fairly loud, but if your case has good cooling it will not be a problem. Unlike other 4850s the fan blows hot air towards the front of the case rather than the rear. I am not sure this makes a difference, but it is a feature to note.

Very solid performance-price ratio.
Plays all latest games very well.
Quiet, less demanding on power than it's equivalent the 9800GTX+
Runs a little hot.
A few issues remain with Catalyst drivers.
This card has been meeting my expectations quite well so far. I knew I was getting great performance/price when I brought it, and I already expected the fact that it runs up to 75-85C under heavy load. The card is apparently built to withstand that heat, though, so it doesn't worry me. However, any attempts to overclock the memory beyond 5-7% causes issues that I believe are heat-related.

While I'm definitely satisfied with performance, the issues I've run into are driver-related. The current latest Catalyst drivers have issues with tools like RivaTuner, and have some stability issues with anti-ailaising in some games I play, which have been a pain to deal with mostly in LOTRO. But ATI releases monthly driver updates and all my current issues should be solved come 10/12.

decent temps
This card rocks. Well all of the 4850's are awesome performers. The Diamond version has decent temps 49C idle and 59C on load. From what I've read about the reference design of the 4850, this is pretty good. And the card is quiet. Can't hear the fan when idle and when gaming, the fan does speed up and you do notice it but it's not annoying.
