This Western Caviar Black WD6401AALS is a 640GB, standard hard disk drive.Compared to other standard hard drives on the market, it is very inexpensive at around US$85. Compared to a typical hard drive, its maximum internal data transfer rate of 113 MBps is very fast.Its burst transfer rate is 300 MB

I used this drive for installing games on my main rig. Very fast load times and plenty of space. I accidently broke the sata data connector on the back of the drive and WD said they would replace it under warranty. I couldn't have been happier.

I stick with the Black series because somewhere along the line I think I read that this model has a higher MTBF rate than the others in their product line such as green and blue. I bought this smaller size because it was on sale to use as a backup drive. I ended up using it as a dual boot drive to boot Win7.
Have used these drives for OS, storage, and raid setups and have never had a single problem with them. The warranty is the main reason I go with WD every time and their support is second to none.

WD Black hard drives haven't steered me wrong yet. I buys WD blacks on a regular basis and they have been extremely reliable. Also got this on a price match for a great price

Bought this for my uncle's build as the main drive. Works like it needs to.
Only problem I have with this drive, it is not a Samsung Spinpoint which are, in my opinion based on experience and testbench, the best 7200 RPM hard drive. It's a shame NCIX doesn't have them in stock

Product Warranty
First 30 days limited warranty through NCIX.com. The remainder of the two year warranty is provided directly by the manufacturer.
Warranty length may vary per specific model. Western Digital Raptor and Caviar RE series enterprise drives are covered by a 5 year warranty. Caviar and Caviar Blue & Green desktop drives are covered by a 2 year warranty for OEM drives, and a 1 year warranty for Retail.
Warranty coverage for drives is covered by NCIX for the first thirty (30) days with the remainder of the warranty covered by Western Digital.
