Pros
compact computer
quiet
Cons
built-in WiFi is horrible
Summary
I recently upgrade my wifi network to Asus RT-N16. I relocated the router to another room. Once I moved the router my wifi connection with the Acer Revo became "limited connection". I spent a few days trying to figure it out if it was the Asus RT-N16 or the Acer Revo. The conclusion is the Acer Revo built-in wifi is worthless. The Acer Revo detects the wifi signals and it will indicate good signal strength but can't connect to internet.

I came to this conclusion because I bought TP-Link TL-WN821N 802.11n. I bought two of these to upgrade my networks to N. I installed this to the Acer Revo and viola! Internet access instantly.

Pros
Very quiet, portable, good all round box
Cons
Bad design for stand as the revo sometimes starts slipping backwards and might fall off.
Summary
Everything about this box is excellent. Immediately installed Ubuntu 9.10 and everything was configured and worked properly. Video had to be enabled simply by enabling the Advanced Effects in Appearance and it'll ask to install NVIDIA drivers. Currently using as a development machine. Works fine. Very portable. Accessories are nice

Pros
Small size and no noise make for a nice HTPC.
Cons
No surprise--processor is a bit slow. No exaggeration that initial boot-up takes 2 hrs.
Summary
I'm currently using this as an HTPC with Windows 7. I followed the lead of the other postings in blowing away the Vista install with all the bloatware. The computer does seem to be running a bit smoother with Win7. I did download some 1080p sample clips and they were stuttering a bit under Vista, but haven't bothered again. My TV is a 768p so it really doesn't affect me right now. Given that others seem to have success with this, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

The wireless keyboard and mouse were nice inclusions--they actually have a decent range.

All in all, a decent little computer.

Pros
Plays 1080p MKV flawlessly...
Cons
...with a fair bit of tweaking.
Summary
I blew away the bloatware this thing comes with out of the box, and immediately loaded up Windows 7.

Although the processor is a bit weak, the GPU works very well in an HTPC configuration, and it plays everything I throw at it.

I tried XBMC (Live, Windows, and Ubuntu versions), and gave up after wasting hours trying to get things like resolution settings and my MCE remote to work.

I'm running Windows 7 Windows Media Center, and I'm pretty happy now.

Pros
It looks nice...
Cons
It runs slow...
Summary
I bought this PC for my HDTV. Right out of the box, the Acer Aspire Revo took two bloody hours to complete its first boot. I wondered why it took so long. Then I found out: it was taking its sweet time pre-installing a horde of bloatware that I need like a hole in the head. As soon as Windows Vista finally finished "preparing your desktop", which took an eternity minus one second, I was greeted by anti-virus offers, ISP offers, data encryption offers, you name it, all of them after my credit card information. I then have to spend the next hour uninstalling everything, then several additional hours updating Windows. This experience has reminded me why I have been using Mac OS X for the past 5 years.

Pros
Great system for the price, awesome video performance.
Cons
bloatware.. Acer systems come with about 20 unnecessary programs.
Summary
Perfect system for an HTPC! Handles HD video with no issues, great deal for a second pc for the kids as well.
NCIX shipped it within 24 hours!

Pros
inexpensive; plays well with TV
Cons
some network connectivity weirdness
Summary
Bought this as a net top to do dual duty as HTPC and for the kids to play simple games/Internet. So far, apart from very minor annoyance of uninstalling a bunch of share/bloatware, it's worked pretty well.
Some gripes:
- wired LAN requires a manual disconnect/reconnect about 25% of the time after waking up from stand-by. (had other wireless issues, so haven't tested that) Otherwise, am usually able to get 1gig.
- have experienced video streaming stutter reported by others, though strangely enough the CPU isn't anywhere near maxed out at these times. Have resolved that video playback stutter seems to be bottlenecked at the local HD (same video doesn't stutter if accessed across network to my RAID). No comment yet on direct DVD playback.
- VESA mount included does not work with my LCD TV (43")

Have returned this computer to the store. I am suspecting I've been caught by the percentage of GF9300-based boards out there which have issues with waking from standby and starting up. I experienced a number of instances (about 75% of the time) where, if I woke the computer up from standby, (wired) network would not be detected, despite having disabled the wireless in Vista. Having left it up continuously, I then found that on the occasions when I did a complete shutdown and restart, a few times the computer would simply not start up, getting stuck on black screen, blinking cursor with the cooling fan going full blast (despite only just having turned on after some downtime, so no way was it hot). Have decided to build my own instead.

Pros
A very powerful, little, multimedia box.

You can hide it away just about anywhere.
Cons
Functionally none, Strictly visual, hope you like a rhombus shaped computer. If you put it on the stand it reminds me of some 1970's cartoon robot.

It would be nice if you could lay it flat. Nothing a set of rubber feet wouldn't cure.

The shiny plastic keyboard and the mouse would probably need replacing with heavy use.

The Windows OEM licence key comes off if you remove the Acer sticker. (Linus does this in the unboxing video).
Summary
I purchased this to replace my aging XBMC box. I'm starting to use more HD content and it's aging hardware just cannot keep up.

I've been waiting for a decent Nvidia ION platform to come out and the USB power problem scared me off Zotac until I knew that the problem had been resolved. I saw this listed and bought it on the spot. NCIX had it at my door at work the very next day. (Thanks!)

I found an excellent guide on how to install this with XBMC, & Ubutntu. (It's in the forums at xbmc.org) I had it up and running with a standard MS MCE 95 remote in about an hour.

The only catch of course is you'll need a USB optical drive, or a formatted flash media stick/card/USB.

It's an excellent "Media Tank" (I'm not overly fond of this phrase), and can be nicely mounted behind a monitor with the included VESA mount.

If you've watched Linus' "windy" unboxing video he actually missed one USB port (There's 6 in total). There's one just at the corner by the power switch under a rubber cover. If you mount this device on your VESA mount (screws and bracket are included) behind your desktop monitor/TV, you can plug in the included web cam into it so it will "peek" out over your monitor.

Audio over HDMI was the clincher on this. One less (audio) cable to run to the TV.

Very quiet, uses little power, and has Gig-E. (Never bothered with the WiFi.)

One thing I found quite interesting is that this processor must be hyper-threaded. When I booted it for the first (and last time) into Vista, under the task manager processors it showed four. I thought it was just a dual core without HT.

When I'm not worried about the warranty, I'll probably change out the 160GB for an SSD or OCZ throttle like device and remove the WiFi to reduce heat and power.

Comment: Limited by the 1.6GHz Atom CPU and Windows Vista Home Premium it’s a jack of all trades, but master of none and we struggle to think of a situation where it holds a real advantage over specifically targeted devices.
