If you want a way to share an internet connection, network your computers together, AND do it while using a more secure WIRED connection, this is an excellent choice in routers.

This is an excellent router if you only need 2-4 computers/consoles connected to it and they are all wired. It is easy to set up and largely hassle free. If you are an inexperienced user, this is definitely the router for you. If you are a more experienced user looking for some customization, I suggest one of the newer models

One thing that we all have to remember and it is that sometimes you have to REBOOT the computer (Windows XP) for the connection to work the first time. Otherwise the setup keeps saying that it cannot connect to the router/switch. The second computer setup was very easy: Plus and play; I did not have to reboot the second computer.

I have had a variety of LinkSys routers, from the befsr81 eight port router through the befsx41 four port router with stateful packet monitoring, down to the befsr41 four port router. The befsr81 and the befsr41 were steady as a rock. The befsx41 four port router with stateful packet monitoring would regularly reboot every two hours. Neither flashing new firmware nor exchanging for another befsr41 solved the problem.

Had it for about three years and it stopped working correctly so I had to go buy a new router. Didn't go with Lynksys the second time because of the price but really good router while it lasted.

I bought this to replace an exact same model that was starting to fail (dirty powerlines). I'm using it primarily as a hardware firewall as opposed to running multiple computers through it.
