I own the prior model, Asus O!Play HDP-R1, which is a great media player. This latest-generation "upgrade" is a huge disappointment. The fan noise is intolerable (definitely something you can hear even when a video is playing), the user interface is pathetic and looks like it was designed on a TRS-80. How a great company like Asus can release something like this is a mystery to me.

Bought this for my mom who watches a ton of RM/RMVB files from Asia, plus MKV, MP4, BD etc. Player is one of the few that handles RM/RMVB without lag or audio sync issues.
Good unit, does the job when playing media files on a USB drive. However, after 5 months of ownership and nearly 4 months of correspondence with ASUS technical support, I'm still unable to connect to Mac OS X Lion SMB shares. Apparently from what I have gathered (OS X logs, and scarce online resources), Apple updated the SMB file sharing stack for Lion, and the Oplay hasn't been updated to support it. My back and forth correspondence with Jerry of Asus tech support, while I've been getting timely responses, they are all "we are still looking at this issue" - I get the feeling this will never be resolved. Quite disappointing, especially for an ASUS product, since Windows/Mac compatibility was a big part for me.
Nice unit and easy to use. Happy to have it as a gift. I have been using his father O!play air for years and this unit even does not have as good video color as O!play air but it does play more video formats. The only thing that I think Asus can add to it is reading Bluray folder.
