Comment: Both the 3TB and 1TB version are the most energy efficient and quiet models we've tested in their respective capacities. Seek noise is almost nonexistent and vibration levels are excellent.

Comment: Western Digital's Red family is a well-rounded offering aimed at home- and SOHO-based NAS appliances. The Red drives aren’t as attractive once you step outside of Western Digital's target usage model of small business network-attached storage and into more demanding professional application

Comment: "...the WD Red is a purpose-built drive that solves the NAS storage problem like no other drive does..."

Always go with WD. WD hard drives are simply the most rounded hard drive I've ever used. Even when damaged, they seem to fail in a "soft" manner whereby data is still recoverable whereas other drives in failure may leave files as recoverable. (Read More)

This appears to be a reliable drive for NAS purposes. My RAID has started to lose the original drives and I am now replacing those with the Red line. So far, these have performed very well, but the real performance will only be determined over time. (Read More)

Bought this drive to replace an Seagate ST3000DM001 that failed in my 8 drive NAS. Then replaced a second one, then a third one, and finally, all 8 Seagate drive failed in less that 48 months so I have 8 WD RED drives in my NAS, none failed so far, happy customer! (Read More)

I don't really have a tonne to say about this drive except that it works as expected. The real test of course in a hard drive is in how long it holds up and in that regard I trust WD over the competitors but again, time will tell (Read More)

They seem decent enough in RAID10 in my PC. After 2 of my 5 Seagate ST3000DM001's dying over the past couple years, gave up on buying another one, just replaced them.... I hope I don't need to use their 3 years warrantee, but I am prepared to, just because. (Read More)
