Comment: Both the 3TB and 1TB version are the most energy efficient and quiet models we've tested in their respective capacities. Seek noise is almost nonexistent and vibration levels are excellent.

Comment: Western Digital's Red family is a well-rounded offering aimed at home- and SOHO-based NAS appliances. The Red drives aren’t as attractive once you step outside of Western Digital's target usage model of small business network-attached storage and into more demanding professional application

Comment: "...the WD Red is a purpose-built drive that solves the NAS storage problem like no other drive does..."

Ordered on Monday, received on Tuesday! wow, great shipping! (Mississauga to Montreal).

I got this WD red to replace a WD Green that has a bad status after 3 years (warranty is only 2 years). It performed as expected. Red and Green are the same disk, just the software is optimized for Raid. It's a bit pricy compared to other disk but warranty is 3 years (and WD Black with 5 years warranty is a bit pricy), so this one is a good compromised. (Read More)

I have a lot of theses in Qnap NAS. Can't be better. Some other brands failed overtime, mostly Seagate drives, but no WD Red died so far. (Read More)

I bought this for my PC replacement, its fast and reliable. It's expensive for the number of GB/$ but its worth it at the end. (Read More)

I've had mixed luck with WD before, with drives failing, but WD has good customer support and reasonable price/performace. Too bad the warranty is relatively short. (Read More)

Bought it to use as a back up drive. Dead silent and is faster than I expected. I also have a WD black and its prolonged transfer speeds are almost identical. However, the WD black still has faster burst writes and access times. I wouldn't use a Red for an OS drive but it certainly better than a black for media storage when factoring in the cost.

Purchased two to run in RAID 1 as a data drive. They are quite and access is quick as they don't spin down. So far so good - not much more to say at this point. Shipment arrived very quickly and the drives were well packaged. (Read More)

I have a few of these units now in my Drobo. They are slowly replacing Seagate drives that have failed over the years. The drive works well, handles being always on and the warranty with WD is great. I had one fail under warranty and they dropped shipped me one within a day. That's great customer service.

I already have one of these in my NAS and got this to add as a second drive in a RAID 1 array. Unfortunately, my first drive failed and is being replaced under warranty, so I'm not too thrilled with that after about 2 years of service; but the support department was very quick in helping over the phone and I hope to receive the replacement drive very soon. I have used Western Digital hard drives for a long time and though I had trouble with the one drive, it doesn't frighten me away from them. Hard drives can fail and having a good backup system in place is no one's fault but our own. (Read More)
