Experience: 30 Days

Very ergonomic, easy software
short lifespan for buttons and scroll wheel
Only used this mouse to game for roughly a month and the left click now double-clicks everytime i click "once". The scroll wheel started squeaking about a week of usage but it was not a bother for me until the double-clicking happened.

DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE! It's a waste of time and there are other mouses out there that will last you longer than this one!

Thankfully costumer care dealt with this and made things easy for me so thanks NCIX!

Experience: 44 Weeks

Expandable size for med to large handed people. Easier to move than a smaller mouse. It's easier to hold on to and pick up.
Not long enough in the body for wrist support. Sides do not expand enough for large handed people. I still have to squeeze my palm to pick it up.
Looking for a good wired gaming mouse with high DPI to use along side my good wireless mouse. I found this one on sale for a good price. It's not always the price. I need a mouse that I can use for long periods of time. I have very large and above normal hand strength. Not bragging just work with my hands a lot and bottom out every handshake machine I have come across.
These extra large hands have to spend the time folded in half at the palm trying to hold these smaller mice. After a little while I get hand cramps from holding in an abnormal way. Also the small length of mice makes it so i have to suspend my wrist. If they would just let you rest you wrist on some padding on the rear of the mouse. Mice need a thumb strap or ring so you don't need to squeeze your palm together to pick it up. A mouse shaped like the palm of a glove that is angled for support so your hand and wrist a sitting at more natural positions. I'm still waiting.

Experience: 3 Weeks

Looks cool, adjustable, nice wheel action, thumb support
They just don't last, expensive.
I had a RAT3..no problems (its my backup now). I had a RAT7 loved it until the y axis went stupid and got progressively worse until was unusable, so it lasted a month from start of problems to 3 months when I tossed it out a window. Bought a RAT5 recently...3 weeks in and I'm having same problems...Ive no interest in chasing warranties so when this one dies ...I'm done with MadCatz products.

Experience: 1 Months

Sleek Design and Finish
Durable Cable
Reliable Mouse Clicks
Adjustable Palm Rest
3 Different Profiles
4 DPI settings
Sturdy Metal Frame
Adjustable Weights
Precision Mode
Horrible Z-Axis Tracking
I bought this mouse while trying to look for a replacement for my World of Warcraft Cataclysm Steelseries mouse(the round palm area made it tolling to grip after hours of usage). So naturally I looked for the most rigid looking mouse I could find: The R.A.T. series by Mad-Catz.
The mouse itself was VERY sturdy and felt durable. The finish on the mouse made it very hard to scratch and would not absorb sweat easily. The cable of the is also very durable.
However, aside from this, the R.A.T.5 has two very notable flaws.
The first being that the right click seems to be rather loose (if you lift the mouse and gently put it back down on the table sometimes a right click would register due to the force).
The second and most major flaw would be its horrible z-axis tracking. When you lift the mouse up often the cursor would drift to one side of the screen instantly making it very frustrating for dedicated gaming use.
Finally, the precision aiming is a feature that is rather useless for anything aside from FPS. In a nutshell: holding the button down just reduces your mouse speed. the button is also rather rigid to press making it hard to use reliably at first.
Overall the R.A.T. 5 is a decent mouse for those who can overlook its issues. However, It is definitely not a reliable hardcore gaming mouse.

Experience: 2 Years

-Very customizable, comes with different attachments
-Looks cool
Aluminum frame bends over time, making your mouse clicks jump
Not made with big hands in mind.

Fell in love with the mouse as soon as I saw it in maximum PC. Very stylish, it worked well for the first 18 months, then the sensor starting to lose track occasionally while gaming, VERY frustrating. Eventually the frame also started to bend from repeated lifting and lowering the mouse on the pad. This caused it to wobble when mouse clicking, making your cursor jump. Very innovative mouse but unfortunately, had quite a few problems.

Experience: 7 Days

-Feels very sturdy.
-Kind of a ruberized coating - Which is feeling super good.
-Very good looking.
-Nice features.
-Needs adaptation.
I had this mouse for a bit now and it is a really good one. Came super fast and in a perfect condition. The only small issue I had is when you (for the first time)have your hand on it for a bit you would put a little weight on the bottom and the front of the mouse would lift for like a millimeter and the cursor lag a bit because the sensor is not 100% touching the pad. But, just another hand position would fix the problem perfectly.

Bottom line:
It is a really good mouse.

Experience: 1 Years

High customization, good for small hands, smooth glide.
ELECTRIC SHOCK, extremely bad glitches with the laser.
Initially I thought this mouse was great, but quickly learned the truth about the supposedly amazing gaming mouse. If it wasnt for the 2 product breaking bugs bellow, this would be the mouse for almost every gamer.

Sometimes while using the mouse my pointer (or crosshair in game.) would hit an invisible wall vertically on the screen, basically the mouse would stop tracking the entire axis. This was rage inducing on many games. It seemed to happen more on faster games that require more high speed mouse movements. This glitch alone is game breaking enough to never recommend this mouse to anyone. I'm not talking about crazy pro gamer high speed mouse action either, any first person shooter would trigger this effect.

Next horrible defect I had the pleasure of experiencing was getting shocked by the mouse. Nearly every time my thumb would come into contact with the screw on the thumb rest it would shock me. Seems like energy builds in the mouse (or me) then grounds when I touch the screw. The build up effect would be most apparent when first sitting down and touching the mouse to use it. I thought maybe I had a rare defective unit or something so I Googled around and there is definitely other people having the same issues. I recommend Googling around a bit about the shocking if you're seriously considering buying this mouse.

Based off my personal experiences with this mouse I give it zero stars.

big mouse
nice mouse for 59.99$ it a great quality / price ratio

Experience: 1 Weeks

very adjustable
profiles available for games
takes time to get adjusted correctly for your needs
This is my first gaming mouse
wasn't a fan of my friends cyborg mouse but after using multiple $20 cheap-o's I decided to give this another go. And I am glad i did, lots of options and tweaks you can do to it. Only downside is that it can take awhile to get adjusted to your likings.

Experience: 1 Years

Nice weight
customizable grip
customizable weights
Very precise
Doesn't wander too much when clicking (though not as good as others)
Great customer support
First one was DOA, Second one only lasted 11 months
Tends to wander a bit without a solid surface/desk
Only offer 3 months of warranty
electrically vulnerable
The driver software sucks.. REALLY bad. I Just use the windows 7 default ones.
First the good:
I really enjoy this mouse. Once I moved my tower off my desk, it was steady as could be. It's quite sensitive to vibrations but that's about it for flaws in functionality.
The weight of it is great. It's got an metal structure inside and it's very bottom heavy. I didn't feel the need to add all the weights as the weight of the mouse itself weighed it down enough for my tastes. The clicking is really solid and all the buttons are easily accessible.

The bad:

Despite how great the mouse is for it's intended purpose (gaming), it's only really good for that. When typing on my keyboard the mouse tends to roam around the screen on it's own because it's sensitive to vibrations. I'm okay with this though, but I still feel it's a con.

These mice are electrically finicky. I find I ALWAYS have to ground myself on my desk before touching the mouse. Failure to do so results in a static shock and mouse will need to be unplugged and plugged back in. My first mouse worked great for about 15 minutes, then once the drivers were installed, shocked me and died. One year later the replacement mouse decided to stop working randomly after rebooting the computer. No lights, not usb device aknowledgment, nothing...

In short, the mouse works great when it works, but it's a touchy piece of hardware that is prone to failure. If they fixed the electrical problems (insulate the electronics from the METAL FRAME) and offered a longer warranty period I would not hesitate the purchase this mouse again. As it is, it's literally a gamble regarding the longevity of the device. If you buy this mouse, keep a back up handy.
