Experience: 1 Years

Small form factor
Weird shape makes it hard to store on shelf. Not stackable
It's an ok unit for streaming videos from a server or a usb hdd. But my unit experienced slow downs in performance after a year.

Experience: 1 Weeks

It streams videos from the internet to your TV and netflix.
It has many bugs, not easy to navigate, plays most formats.
Basically don't get it unless its the only thing that will be playing streams in your home. most anything resembling a computer will do better. This has so much potential its amazing that it seems to have been forgotten about by its manufacturer. A couple updates and a few features would make this a great product.

Experience: 3 Months

Fast, Amazing video quality, compatible with may file formats, fantastic remote
Price, no power button on the remote
This box is certainly an amazing central media hub for home use. It plays internet videos in a snap and pulls my home video files from the NAS drive in no time. It solved all my online and network multimedia needs in one place. The keyboard on the remote makes typing letters and numbers in the search box very easy. All this box is missing is recording capabilities.

Experience: 1 Years

Used to work well
Does not work well any more.
Agree with reviewer below. The true potential of this device is to stream local and internet content in a user friendly interface. With each passing month the device had more and more bugs and less functionality. The boxee support service does not exist any more and the device is dying a slow death as technology around it advances. Soon it will be a very expensive way to play some (not all) local media only. I would give it one star, but couldn't since I bought it elsewhere and NCIX demands and order no. for 1/2 star reviews.

Experience: 3 Days

Works good, looks great.
Works as advertised, great product in the end.

Experience: 6 Months

Supports 1080p HD
Box does not turn off with remote anymore - forced shutdown will damage external harddrives if connected.
Not compatible with latest flash - no fix in projected future
No longer streams live content - no fix and not even being looked at by Boxee.
Boxee has all but abandoned the Boxee Box. There are numerous major bugs that are not being fixed and the Boxee team is silent on most if not all of them. There is no projected fix date for most of these bugs and they pretty much cripple the device.
6 months ago I would of gave this 4/5 stars. Today it gets 1.
Buy something else. I'd return mine if I could.

Experience: 2 Days

Easy Setup
Works out of the "box" :p
Wireless streaming of local and web media is excellent
Lots of apps and content to explore
The Boxee Box will negatively affect the amount of sleep you get!
As someone who has relied on streaming local content to their Television for years starting with xbox1 xbmc, tversity over xbox 360 and directly connecting my pc to my HDTV I have to say that the Boxee Box has exceeded my expectations in regards of performance and compatibility... Setting it up was a breeze... it let me easily create  a boxee account, received the latest system update  and adding local media sources was a snap... it has alot of little options that just make sense. Its easy to tell this came from XBMC... I was a little worried that the web content would be mostly from the U.S. but it pulled down feeds from CTV, Global, Showcase etc.. and they all work ok.. but the main reason for me to purchase the device was to stream my content upstairs to my living room TV and to get access to Netflix... both work great... my Linksys E1000 router is downstairs and HD content up to 1080P streams upstairs with ZERO glitching.... im a very happy camper.... If you're worried about this device not being powerful enough to stream your content you should be safe... and if you dont want to have to mess with the more complex solutions but still want quality and reliability I strongly suggest picking this bad boy up.... Hey.. its a freaky cube that lights up green with a nifty remote that gives you access to a tremendous amount of free content that you can show off to your mates... what more do you want? :)

Experience: 2 Months

* Plays every format
* Firmware updates automatically
* slick interface
* remote control
* processer could be strong
* audio lag with TS files - but there is a setting to offset this
* wifi is only 2.4ghz
I got this as a part of my HD recording setup. I keep videos stored on my NAS (DNS-325), from which boxee reads and plays on the tv over wifi with no problem whatsoever. It discovers and reads network shares easily.

I had some trouble setting up the wifi, mostly because i didn't realize it only works on the 2.4ghz band, so just keep that in mind if you have a dual band router.

Updating is a snap - like the xbox, it just downloads and installs automatically - no need for complicating firmware flashing.

Great product!

Experience: 2 Months

-easy setup
-easy networking
-built-in wifi capability
-great support (boxee team will only support the boxee box now)
-great design and small footprint
-best remote for a media player
-excellent GUI
-automatically downloads movie covers
-excellent media format compatibility
-can browse the web and download apps (like netfix)
-....too many to list
-low hum of the cooling fan can be heard when the TV is silent
-the cooling fan is a little underpowered if you are using the boxee 24/7
-no local storage option
-HDMI video interface only
The boxee box is the best media player on the market right now. It has the best design, hardware specs, remote, and GUI! Networking to your external content or the web is very easy with this unit, but the unit can still be difficult for those who don't read instructions or have much tech experience.

The boxee box is all around great, very stable, and it will even automatically download movie thumbnails and content information for you! The remote alone puts it ahead of the competition. The only real problem it has is an audio-skipping issue on high-bitrate movies, but this is due to the intel-processor, and not the boxee software...and they are currently working on a fix for it. The problem is very rare, but can be fixed by a reset of the machine (sometimes a hard reset is necessary), or by letting the boxee cool down if it has been in use for an extended period of time (like 8+ hours). Don't let that scare you though, this is an excellent choice for a media player.

I read all of the negative product reviews, but after having owned this unit for 2 months, it's clear those reviewers don't know what they were talking about, and that they judged this media player unfairly after a day or two of use.

Experience: 14 Days

Handles any media file I throw at it. Remote is perfect for living room. Small form factor. Ability to use as a NAS. Good wireless streaming.
Has had problems playing some media files. I'm stuck with Canadian content (Netflix and other sites) unless I use a VPN (not Boxee's fault I guess). Won't allow PC to sleep if connected?
I bought this during the holiday sale with free ground shipping. I was looking at first for a device to stream my media from my PC to my TV, but after reading reviews I decided on this for the added benefit (Boxee software and Netflix/other streaming apps).

Hooking it up was painless enough, it comes with a supplied HDMI cable which is great. However the unit I got had old firmware which refused to connect to my home Wi-Fi. Luckily I was able to plug in ethernet to get the thing updated. Once the new firmware was installed it connect wirelessly and worked great. Picture quality is great and it streams any media file perfectly. It even streamed wirelessly my 11 GB Avatar Blue Ray rip perfectly which I was quite impressed with (wireless N).

Now I've moved hooked my media hard drive directly up to the Boxee and have Windows Sharing enabled so it effectively turns it into a NAS. I can read/write to it from my PC using SMB. The iPhone app works great as well allowing full control of the Boxee Box from your phone. I also tried out Airplay, allowing the Box to stream music from my phone directly to it.

My only gripes with it now are the lack of content because I'm in Canada, though I'm thinking a VPN might solve this issue. The other problem I'm having is my PC no longer sleeps, but this could be an unrelated issue. By far worth this is worth the price and since I'm saving $60 a month from cancelling cable, it's totally worth it.

Comment: Less expensive than the Logitech Revue with Google TV and pricier than Apple TV, the Boxee Box by D-Link focuses on rounding up Web content on your HDTV, but suffers from a lack of partner content at launch.
