Experience: 2 Months

No more wrist pain/discomfort!
Easy to get used to
Many Configurable buttons, great app
I decided to get this because I often have occasional wrist pain but it was getting worse. I make my living on my computer so it no longer made sense to not spend the money and try to stay healthy, I'm glad I did.

I was worried it would be hard to get used to, but within a week I'd say I was at full mouse capability. Also, the mouse comes with a cool control panel application that lets you configure the shortcut buttons or even deactivate some if you want, which I did for the 3rd mouse button... Because I had too many misfires I think mostly because I wasn't used to 3 finger mice.

Also, there is a toggle button which lets you adjust the speed of the mouse. All in all, I think it's great and my wrist has been pain free since a week after I got it.

Experience: 1 Weeks

Comfortable grip
Size/fit for smaller hands
Heat generated by mousr
This was recommended as an ergonomic mouse. I originally held off purchasing this because of the price and it's rarity (I could not see one of these in any store, let alone NCIX own store). I'm glad I brought it. It's very comfortable and easy to use. Although it took me a few days to get used to after using a regular mouse. Even so, I still knock the mouse over as my instinct is still to grab it as a regular mouse.

I have 2 concerns, if you have small hands (ladies or kids) I'm not sure how comfortable it is to use. Also, the mouse is warm to the touch from the electric inside. Another thing to get used to.

Experience: 1 Days

Great improvement over basic mouse
Light touch buttons
Not a improvement over a gaming mouse
90 degree rotation of muscular control of mouse movements
While this is a great improvement over a basic mouse and would be good for people who have no elbow support while using the computer it is not for me as my desk is U shaped and my arms are supported to take pressure off my shoulders. The vertical arrangement causes a shift muscles in my arm that are used .. aka ones that haven't been used in a while complained .. also my pinky finger will have to develop new callouses and felt cramped.
The buttons are very light and picking up the mouse and moving it leads to some strange results unless you disable the third bottom mouse button or you can use it as a convenient way to get out of any game you want to mention without exiting normally nearly every time you pick the mouse up.
All this being said it is a great mouse for people who are using a basic mouse but it is no improvement over my Microsoft X5 sidewinder gaming mouse .. I will go with the Logitech 400s which reminds me of my Logitech mx510 I started with years ago as it is a Gaming Mouse

- Vertical angle really decreases stress on the wrist
- Wrist pain is virtually gone after a week or so
- Speed controls and software definitely a plus
- Love the middle click button (and mouse wheel button can be set to anything you want)
- Large mouse that fits nicely in the hand
- Still not quite the perfect shape
- Wrist hurts a tiny bit in a new spot now
- Takes some getting used to, especially in terms of how to grip it
- A bit too pricey
This mouse is very nice for anyone who gets any sort of finger/wrist pains after prolonged usage of a mouse. The angle your hand sits at is much more natural than the usual mice, and takes a lot of stress off your wrist.
The buttons are nice and responsive, but not quite as nice as my Razer Mamba. The middle click button is definitely handy, and after setting my mouse wheel button to a double click, I've reduced even more strain by not needing to double click anymore (sounds ridiculous, but when programming this helps a ton).
The mouse definitely takes some getting used to though; I had all kinds of new pains for the first few days, but after I kept trying with slightly different positions, my hand and wrist have finally relaxed, and I don't even think about it anymore (this is after just over a week). My one finger still hurts a bit, but in a different place than before.
Overall, the shape could be slightly better...I think it's a bit *too* vertical, where your hand almost wants to slide off. I tend to hold it with my palm shifted to the left, since it just supports it better. It works great for games too, as long as you've gotten used to it before trying some...otherwise it'll just frustrate you. In the end, I definitely would recommend it so long as you're having pains from using conventional mice. Even then, there may be better options, but you may end up paying more.

>Vertical grip very ergonomic, reduces strain due to extended mouse use
>Custom button mapping can be tied to specific programs
>Very light, glides effortlessly
>On the fly sensitivity adjustment is useful
>2 year warranty useful, especially since the cons will show up after about a year.
>Rubberized finish deteriorates and comes off, particularly if your hands sweat while using it.
>No strain relief on the cord, so it will break if you're not careful to avoid it bending at extreme angles.
>Buttons may wear out and the clicks won't register as cleanly as they should.
>Smooth plastic finish of the buttons seems to attract grime
I've purchased four of these mice just over a year ago for my brother and I to use at work and home. We love them and don't like using other types of mice, but we have noticed a couple of flaws to them:

1) The rubberized finish on the palm grip section will wear off where your hand contacts it, particularly if your hands sweat while using it. This ends up making it look ugly when it starts to look patchy, and feels uncomfortable under your hand. I recommend keeping your hands dry when using this mouse, and wiping it with a damp cloth after use. Evoluent does not replace the mice under warranty for this issue. They claim it is due to "external factors," which is a cop-out since it's actually a by-product of their intended usage by human hands.

2) The wire in the cable exiting the front of the mouse ended up breaking on one of our mice. A better design would be for Evoluent to add a strain relief to the cable. Make sure you don't let the cable bend at extreme angles while you use it. This issue they WILL address with a warranty replacement.

Despite the cons, I still haven't found better vertical mice on the market. I hesitate to buy more of these until they address the weaknesses in the next version of this mouse.

Experience: 2 Days

No arm or wrist fatigue
Higher mouse speeds too fast, though I am sure that this can be adjusted
This is a must have for people that are on the computer allot. Between this mouse and an ergo keyboard all issues that I attributed to carpal tunnel are gone. And not in two days I owned the first gen EVO mouse before upgrading to this version.

The first gen mouse was amazing. Evoluent VM4R blows the socks off my old one.

Experience: 2 Days

- True Ergonomic design. Makes the hand into a "handshake" position all the time. Its actually VERY comfortable
- Its big, and fits the hand perfectly.
- Good DPI: I dont ever move my hand when using the mouse. Just glide it with my fingers
- Its light! Making it easier to glide with fingers
- Kay Mapping: Assign each key *6 in total, to do whatever you want
- Decently built, its good enough
- EXCELLENT Packaging! Soo environmentally friendly! Its just a small cardboard box and some bubble wrap.
-Takes about a week to get used to
- Gamers might not like it, because its large, thus requires more time to your your hand on and position properly.
- Software GUI could be better, but it does the job.
- price! Its expensive no doubt, but worth it in the end!
- Left button click not as clicky as other buttons. It requires less pressure to click (not sure if defective unit or design) But I guess it will take some time getting used to
-Scroll wheel is not 4-way, which would have been a nice feature as i use it.
For the past couple of months, my right wrist had been hurting. After a visit to the Doc, they said i'm heading towards Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Drastic measures had to be taken.

Previous Mice used over the last 4-5 years:
- Logitech MX1000
- Logitech G500
- Logitech TrackMan Marble
- Microsoft Natural 6000
- Annd now this, Evoluent VM4R

The other mice were good and comfortable and labelled as being ergonomic, But THIS hands down, after using it for 8 hours straight, No fatigue!

I also prefer this over a trackball. I found it hard to work with After Effects and other programs that required precise movements. There were other times when i accidentally nicked the ball, cause the cursor to move somewhere else. After a week of using the TrackMan Marble, I had to return it, and decided to spend the big bucks.

I have fairly large hands as well and this fits me perfectly. From the tip of my middle finger to wrist, I am almost 8.25 inches, So this mouse has been a blessing.

PS I am NOT a gamer! But my job requires me to use the computer 8-10 hours a day, sometimes longers depending on the length of the project (video editing/development etc). Also, if you are having wrist fatigue or numbness, i recommend this. Also, use it with a small wrist gel pad, it will do you wonders!
