Summary
My Xonar DX died, so I decided to splurge and get the top of the line sound card. I hated using the on board sound. I'm using this currently with the Logitech z906 Speakers 5.1. They were made for each other.
I would buy these again.

Amazing card, you really can tell the difference between this and a built-in sound card. Only problem is the drivers are not that great, has caused a few minor issues for me.

Software is slow and unresponsive and ugly as sin itself, onboard sound UI looks better. (Only if you like to toggle DTS on and off will this be a problem)

Summary
Use for all media including gaming with HD 589's.
Biggest con is the unresponsive and ugly software. The unresponsive part is only when going to advanced headphone settings. 50% of the time it is unresponsive and you haven to go to task manager close the program and try again until it works. A LARGE waste of time.

Ingame sound is great.More control over how the sound is delivered to your speakers or headset than standard onboard sound.

Bad drivers crash medal of honor warfighter. Tinny sound quality to voice in voip programs.

Summary
For everyday use this is great and would work well for music and videos. Excellent sound quality.
Unfortunately, if you want this to use while playing mohw, save your money. The drivers are bad and you will crash repeatedly. I am not hopeful they will fix quickly as it took 6 months to get new drivers out to fix bf3 crashes. I never tested with that game so cannot say whether it fixed the problem or not though the release notes say it did.
Overall only satisfactory as it is a lot of money if your sole purpose is to use it for gaming given the current performance issues with drivers and the new games.
If you get it as you play older games or games that are compatible, make sure you use the drivers from their site and not the ones on the provided disk.

Summary
I've searched internet for a great sound card to fit my 5.1 audio system (Logitech Z5500) with direct connection. I came across this card will searching for headphones. Hooked up this card with Sennheiser PC320 and sound quality is amazing. Never tough an headphone amp would make such difference. Glad I bought this card.

Summary
Replaced a dead Xonar Essence with this and ASUS has improved everything moving forward - both hardware and software.
The breakout box is extremely handy if you do any online gaming and use a headset, and its noise cancellation when paired with a headset is especially impressive.
Not many people will shell out the $200 for a sound card of this calibre, but if you do and are a gamer I'd definitely recommend the Phoebus.

Summary
This is by far the best sound card I have ever owned. It has a built in mic on the handy breakaway box so I can use my Sennheiser HD 558 (Which sound amazing with the headphone amp)and still communicate with the team. The problem with BF3 and punkbuster has been fixed with the new beta drivers from the ASUS website so don't worry about that when considering this card. The bottom line is this card is amazing for listening to music, playing games, and watching movies. I would highly recommend this card to anyone.

Summary
First sound card that i have purchased and i can say that i am glad i got this when it works. i have tested this with BF3, MW2, Black light Retribution, minecraft, skyrim, world of tanks, Aion, Halo as well as several movies. It is a great card only when it works.
Anything with punkbuster will crash periodically.Black light retribution has a bug that will cause it to crash but the crash rate increases with this card. Asus drivers at the time of this post is still just a beta fix and is being test by owners of the card.
marks off for poor launch drivers and slow response to come up with a fix. Everything else is great. DO NOT LET the driver stop you from buying this card, the driver is just software that will be fixed the hardware is perfectly fine.

Summary
Upgraded from an old creative x-fi fatality (2007). Great increase in sound quality. Hearing sounds I never knew existed. Bass/Highs/Lows all seem spot on.
As I don't play Battlefield 3 on PC, I cannot comment on the driver issues people have been having. Every other game I've played works flawlessly and I've had literally no problems at all.
People who said they can't use the software supplied because it's too complicated are computer illiterate. It literally took 5 minutes to figure out every setting on the card.
Price is a little high for what you get. I would have prefered an I/O drive instead. I'm assuming with better drivers in the future we'll start to see what this card can really do.
4/5 stars due to price.
Just waiting on my Razer 7.1 Tiamat now to test that 600ohm amp!
