Customer Service

not at all fancy, just does keyboard stuff.
|
Summary
This is getting a review not for the keyboard but for the customer service at Azio. My keyboard had a weird problem (probably a wiring issue) so I emailed Azio customer service. They were quick to respond, helpful, and shipped me a new keyboard. I didn't even get dinged for shipping and handling even though I'm in Canada. Thanks Dave!

Pros
Low price. Grippy WASD keys good for gaming.
|
Cons
Incredibly noisy typing. Somewhat weird key layout.
|
Summary
The poor man's mechanical keyboard. If you really, really want a mechanical keyboard, and this one is on sale and your only affordable option, then go for it. The keyboard is nice and wide (the classic IBM keyboard size), the keys well-spaced, and if you're a gamer, the rubberized WASD keys are handy and don't get in the way while doing regular typing.
That said... The keys are incredibly loud. We purchased several of them for our office and when people are working it sounds like a drive-by shooting for most of the day. I own a DAS keyboard at home and it's much quieter.
My second complaint is the key layout - around the enter key, the backslash is moved down just above the forward slash, which adjusts where the quote character keys go. This is jarring when you're used to a standard layout, and then go and move things a bit. People with laptops are well familiar with this pain.
The first keyboard I received was defective, with a loose contact somewhere internally. RMA received and the new one is performing as expected. During the same order I also received an Azio mouse and was disappointed by the quality of that, too. Maybe I've just had some bad luck, but Azio seems to me a discount brand that is better avoided if you want something that lasts.

Pros
Cheap Mechanical Rubber WASD and arrow keys EXTRA clicky sounding
|
Cons
Cheap.... really loud (not really a con, but hey some ppl dont like loud keyboards left shift and CTRL keys paint is fading. C T I O L keys and space bar are Flaky
|
Summary
Upon first buying this keyboard I was impressed... within a few weeks, the paint started to fade on the two mentioned keys. about 3 weeks after that my C key stopped responding to keystrokes 3/4 of the time (sometimes I have to hit it 4 or 5 times) Then the t key, then I O and L all started to do it too.
Despite what I read on another review (saying AZIO doesnt honor warranties) I got in touch with them to RMA this thing... I was SHOCKED to find out that they are discontinuing this model in canada (as in you cant get it anymore, I assume NCIX gets theirs from the USA)and they could not send me a replacement KB528U from canada... They gave me 2 options. One being a replacement shipped all the way from california, OR an upgrade to a KB577U free of charge shipped from canada (likely right here in toronto!) All in all im pretty happy with AZIOcorp despite what I read on another review on a competitor site! Will post a review on the KB577U when I recieve it!
Would be one star if not for fantastic customer service!

Pros
Rubber WASD and arrow keys for gaming.
|
Cons
None
|
Summary
This is my first ever mechanical keyboard and it is great. I prefer it over any average membrane keyboard. The rubber WASD and arrow keys are great for gaming and barely affect my typing, so personally I like the inclusion of them. In terms of OS support, I have tested it on Windows 7 + Ubuntu 13.10, and it works great on both operating systems. I didn't think I'd like mechanical keyboards this much and am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Pros
nice keyboard
|
Cons
doesn't work with Mac
|
Summary
It is really a nice keyboard BUT it does not work with Mac! Mac users please be aware. I was buying it for playing Guild Wars 2, and even I remapped the keys using ukelele, it still doesn't work for the game.
I already emailed the company and expecting that they will have solution. If not then I have to return it :( so sad.

Pros
+great mechanical keyboard and feel +colored/textured WASD prevents slipping/loss of placement +price
|
Cons
+not backlit +no usb/audio ports (but who uses them anyway)
|
Summary
I tried the razer and steelseries (blackwidow & g6v2) mechanical keyboards and they're 3x-5x the price for the same functions.
The textured WASD doesn't mess with my typing like some others have mentioned so it's nothing to stress over.
Get this keyboard and call it a day.

Pros
Cheap Looks Nice and matches my PC build
|
Cons
Rubberized WASD keys impede typing Terrible switches (ALPS clone)
|
Summary
This was my first mechanical keyboard. Being a thrifty guy, I set out to buy the cheapest one available. So I did. But in doing so, I wasted my money on the worst mechanical board available.
My typing speed is a lot slower on this keyboard even with proper technique (not bottoming out). The keys have a wobble to them and the actuation point differs from key to key, which is annoying if you are typing fast. Some keys don't respond properly.
Definitely would not buy again.

Pros
It's mechanical.
|
Cons
Key spacing a bit odd at first, euro layout, quality issues
|
Summary
Bought two, so I genuinely can talk about build quality, I suppose.
One's number pad key indicator LED light is2 defective, the other had plastic mold excess on the back. Right arrow key get stuck in position. It's fine if you press towards the middle but if you press towards the right side it just holds (I can tell this is a key adjustment issue because switching the left and the right keys solves the stuck key problem). The build quality of these is mediocre, to say the least.
I can't really compare it with other mechanical keyboards as this is our first set of *current generation* (we had a model M when I was a kid and I have a Commodore 64) mechanical keyboard. All I know is that I'm typing faster and the switches feel good to me.
Key spacing is a bit weird coming from my last Logitech model and it gets weirder when you're around the rubberized WASD keys as they're not the same size or depth as the regular keys. I suppose you can get used to that.
Overall, if you can get it for 30 dollars or less, it's great value. Over that? Go with a competitor. Azio might be covering these for 3 years, but when quality control is this poor, I feel you should skip over the product altogether. This is my first Azio product and I can safely say I won't acquire another. The core of the unit is not defective and it's much better than having to deal with a membrane, though, I'll give it that. In retrospect, had I been faster (NCIX ran out of stock), I would've grabbed the similarly priced Cooler Master model (with Cherry switches). If you're really set on this one for whatever reason (switches are good from my perspective, rubberized keys feel good on their own, too, I personally enjoy the fact that it matches my ProArt monitor), try to get it in person and make sure everything about it is in order.

Pros
Really nice feel.
|
Cons
The American/Canadian keyboard hybrid layout. It's really loud.
|
Summary
This is my first mechanical keyboard since back in the day when basically every keyboard was mechanical. So far I'm really enjoying it. My only qualm with it so far is that the rubberized keys didn't come with regular key replacements. It would have been cool to swap them out for regular keys because when typing with rubber keys you actually do notice quite a difference in how they feel. But I suppose for gaming that might actually be really nice because that way you can just feel your way to the keys instead of looking down.
Got it on a sale for $40 and I'm quite happy with the purchase. My family basically hates hearing me type though so be prepared to piss off your roommates/family/girlfriend with this thing.
