Experience: 18 Months

none either
this thing is as basic as can be. at the time was the cheapest NAS I could find and I got what I paid for. Cheap. Don't get me wrong, it works just fine... but feature wise along with user friendliness... I'll say nothing not to be rude. But it shares files across a network.

Experience: 2 Years

Hot swappable Drives
Two bays
Terrible admin software
Firmware problems
Slow data transfers
Did I say useless Admin backend
I have just plowed through my second one of these useless NAS servers in less than two years. Both times it's been the same problem, corrupted firmware and a power indicator that just continually blinks blue. The first time I requested an RMA from the company and they sent a new unit.
This time I lost all my data, can't re-initialize the unit because of the firmware and can't flash it as they had suggested because the front usb 3.0 won't read the formatted stick with the bootable files. I've contacted support numerous times and now I get no response. Seems they have given up as I have. I guess they don't want to dole out a third one.

Thanks Omninas but I won't be back. I guess you get what you pay for.

A year ago I bought a Synology NAS and have not had a problem, Excellent admin software and first class support. This is what I would recommend to everyone to buy.

PS NCIX is a great company, no complaints there however I noticed that a rating of 1 or 2 stars results in the NCIX staff checking for relevance to the product before being posted. I hope they do check. I have all the correspondence with Omninas as proof.

Good price when on special (I paid $100)
SD card reader
USB ports
Slow transfer speed
Slow CPU, not good enough for multimedia
HDD data corruption
Lack of FTP protocol
Lack of SSH protocol (with original firmware)
Bought back in 2013 to organize my photos and movies collection.
Very unreliable, I don't trust it to put my photos inside, even with RAID 1. I always keep a separate backup.
When I activate UPNP or any media server, smb file transfer is slow.
I have tested all firmware versions from Omninas webpage.
Finally, with the minimal services activated, I used it just for samba for 1 year. While copying some movies, I start another copy from another computer. It become frozen forever. After half hour I reset. The RAID 1 partition becomes totally corrupted. Tried a dozen of Linux distro in order to recover data, unable to mount or to scan the xfs filesystem. Finally with UFS Explorer for Windows I managed to extract my data. 10% of the files were corrupted and unusable.

Another good point is the SD card reader.
The USB is nice because most of the printers are recognized in MAC and PC.

It is good for lightweight jobs, but very unreliable.
Definitely I will not purchase again.

Experience: 1 Years

Bought it because of the price.
When you start with one drive and want to add another as RAID 1, you have to reformat all drives.
The HDD super hot still not enough the auto fan on. If you choose always on, fan is noisy.
Will discount when transfer larger file look 100GB.
Transfer rate around 35 which is OK for this price. Way better than the DL... one only 15MB.

Experience: 15 Months

Hot swappable drives
case & mechanisms seems sturdy enpugh
easy inital setup
couldn't delete  "iteunes" folders, most annoying for me
usb 3.0 connector is a male A, should be female B
"Itunes" folder - I hate it when I don't have the flexibility to configure products to my liking.

USB 3.0 connector was an issue for me. I checked my other NAS (mediatronic) and other devices and they all have female B connectors. You will need a usb 3.0 Male A - to Male A cable. I could be wrong but I believe this is a design flaw.

I bought this because I have other Shuttle products that I do like. My impression is that this thing was rushed to market.

Experience: 31 Days

Nice casing
Great speeds
Easy install
Disconnects randomly
Interface isn't clear when data will be wiped.
Adding another disk and using JBOD erases both disks for no reason
No option for separate disk mounts!
Great NAS for the price, but be prepared to manually reset it a lot.

I have to reset it before I use it every time because it randomly loses connection to my PC and won't respond (even via Web UI).

The case is nice and the aluminum looks great but also displaces heat. It's not tool-less like some other NAS units, but the cradles feel sturdy. Fan could be quieter at high speeds.

The options for your drives suck too. It's JBOD, RAID0 or RAID1. You can't have both drives individual volumes. (They could easily add this in an update, but they force you to buy the newer model to get it).

Over all, get a D-Link. I've owned a DSN-320 and DNS-321 and both have been much more reliable.

Experience: 1 Years

I works great when connected.
It disconnects when sleeping.
I have tried everything including updating firmware and factory reset. There is not even an option to keep it awake.
Like I said, it would work fine if I was using 24 hours a day, which is the only way to keep it connected.
I literally have go and unplug/restart it manually.

Experience: 1 Years

Cute box
Easy to install
User Friendly UI
Cheap case
UI is really too limited
Hard to manage
Doesn't work well while on 1gb LAn
That's one of the worst NAS I ever tried. First the case is so cheap, that it make lot of noise while fan are "on".

The worst thing is that you have to use Ubuntu/Linux in order to be able to delete  somes files. If you're using Windows, you got lot of "permission denied". I called the company and they just told me that there's no solution. It's caused by the "Twonky" media server. If you turn it off, you still have the issue, unless you delete  all your NAS and reload it after (wow)...but if you turn On Twonky, your stuck again...

The speed of this NAS is slow as hell. And when I connected it to a 1GB LAn, it was just unable to manage it. So I got a tons of disconnection. I had to slow down the network card on my PC to 100mbs in order to get a proper connection. But NAS will only transfert at a rate of 15mb/s...ugly!

There's also a big lack of feature on the UI and the integrated backup system is worst than the Windows one (is it possible?). You really need to use another software (like cobian backup) in order to get "effective backup".

This NAS has to be rebooted at least 1 time a week in order to work properly..

That's the worst NAS i've ever had. I'm working in IT department and my job consist to setup "job site" with server/NAS. I always use WD or Synology NAS and I will send my Omninas to garbage and buy a WD or Synology!

PS : Sorry for the spelling/writing i'm a french guy but I wanted to write in english since major user on this site speak english.

PS2 : I have to put a 3 stars since I don't have my orderID in hand and I can't post without it. The real score should be 1 star.

OK at 69.99, but it's not worth any more than that.
You can't update  the firmware.
Don't buy it unless you have no intention of updating it, the update  would be nice though as the media server will automatically refresh the library, instead of having to manually refresh.

You can't update  the firmware. 20131121 works, anything after that messes it up. I was able to recover it once with a USB based firmware update  provided by Shuttle support. That no longer works anymore so my NAS is completely unusable. I can ping it, but the finder software can't see it, I can bring up the login page as long as I try to access within a few seconds of powering it on, but it stops responding before the login is completed.

When it did work the speed was actually pretty good, it was easy to setup, and I was very pleased with it for the first 6 months I had it.

Experience: 60 Days

35-40mb/sec write, 65-70mb/sec read over gigabit LAN with 2x 2Tb Western Digital Red series drives in Raid-1.

Quiet! The rear fan has never spun up because its cool to the touch, especially with these Red series drives.

Decent looks. Easy to setup. The web interface is good, providing whatever options a residential or SOHO user would need.

When I needed to contact Shuttle tech support for help updating the firmware, and their phone menu's and agents were excellent, especially Erik Carillo.

Tech support is a Pro also: Shippped with an outdated firmware, so the initial setup would not complete. But thankfully to Erik Carillo, a TSC at Shuttle support, he promptly emailed me a newer version and very simple instructions on how to update  the firmware via USB stick.

The only con to this is that it took an hour of my time, but this is not abnormal when dealing with technology. As long as tech support is savvy and easy to understand, that's all I care about.

Sleep mode consumes very little power, but the drive is still accessable. Once you select  a folder inside the root directory, then the drives spin up from sleep mode which takes all of 2-3 seconds. So waking up from sleep takes 2-3 seconds and you can adjust how long it takes go to into sleep mode, or you can leave it always on if you have NAS level drives that are made for 24/7 operation.
Shipped with outdated firmware, but as listed in the Pros section of this review, I actually appreciate Shuttle even more now because of how excellent their technical support was.
Great product, would recommend it again.
