Experience: 2 Years

Fast enough for normal users and normal gaming.
Awesome CPU! I have had this CPU for 2 years and never had a problem. It doesn't run too hot on the stock fan heatsink; about 30 degrees idle. It is great for gaming and can run all of todays applications just fine. If your looking for an inexpensive and all around good processor, the 3800+ is for you.

Experience: 3 Months

Fast and very reliable
Not Dual Core
This is a great processor for basic and advanced users. Haven't had a problem with it yet and I have been putting it too the test.

Experience: 2 Months

price (was on sale)
I bought this to upgrade my 3200 and it runs 6 degrees cooler.
Not the best over clocker, I was able to get to 2.7 GHZ stable
without changing my memory dividers.

Experience: 2 Months

Is possible for overclocking.
Is pretty cheap.
Is better than a lot of Pentium 4s.
Can run games better than a lot of Pentium 4s.
Hyper Transport has 5 different speeds and it's good to prevent "the butterfly effect".
Can't overclock too much or you won't get a cool temperature.
Maximum temperature is around the 60s
Can't run current games at the maximum settings
I was a first a little disappointed with this CPU. I really wanted to run new games like BF2142 at the maximum possible setting but the game was not able to run smooth, so I overclocked it. Even if I overclock it, it still wasn't able to do this. Also, if you overclock, be careful with changing volts because some motherboards will break even if you add 1.575 volts, and changing volts and changing clock speed will increase the temperature. As well as the fact that if your computer shuts down too much because of overheating, it will really worn out your CPU, so be careful with overclocking.

When I personally overclocked it, I didn't change the volts and I let my Asus motherboard automatically overclock it to 110% clock speed (which is 2.64 GHZ) and I only change it during gaming because I don't want to worn out this CPU.

Overall I was pretty happy with this CPU because I was able to max out Battlefield 2 and it runs games a lot more smoother than my old Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ. However, because I can't max out on every game I really prefer getting the Core 2 Duo E6600 instead, but that CPU is a lot more expensive. Plays game well, better than some dual core AMD
single core
It's one of socket 939's best cpu for gaming as most of them are only single threaded... I can only see it as a good value if you have a spare socket 939 mobo around (like me), but then again, it's really fast. Fan is really quiet on top it it.

Stock Fan keeps CPU at great temps
None that I can think of.
I did a light upgrade on my parents system they had a AMD 3000+ and I upgraded their CPU to a AMD 3800+ and I noticed a huge difference. There was at least a 5 second shorter boot time loading their system. I dont bother with overclocking. But for the 125 bucks I got this cpu on sale for I definitly cant complain.

Experience: 4 Days

best value for the price e $108.00
got this to upgrade from a amd 3000+ . I noticed a significant increase in speed, in bootup as well as opening programs. As of current date, Jan/07 , this appears to be the best value processor for the price on sale for $108.00.
very good upgrade.

Experience: 1 Days

good price for upgrading from socket A/s754
only 512k cache
This is a strong performing cpu, this is replacing a s754 Sempron 2800. performance should be 50%+ over the current sempron:)

Experience: 5 Days

the cpu speed
the cpu fan
i buy this cpu to replace my amd athlon 3000+ (upgrade)

the only complaint i have is the cpu fan

the installation of the cpu fan is very difficult

the plastic mechanism have no utility

i prefer my old cpu fan (athlon 3000+)

i always buy retail box , amd should revised is cpu fan

Experience: 3 Days

Fast, really OCable, easy to install.
The Stock-Heatsink sucks.
I upgrade from a 2200 Sempron, Socket A for this badboy, I overclocked this to 3.2 GHz without going over 35 degrees on High load. I would DEFINATELY recommend this card to anyone needing that extra speed boost.

Comment: In the end I would find it hard to suggest the Athlon 64 3800+ to a user hoping to buy or build their own system. While the A64 3800+ is no slouch by any stretch of the imagination, the greater focus on multi-threaded applications we are starting to see makes it nearly obsolete already.

Comment: AMD's Athlon 3800+ is undoubtedly one of the best processors you can acquire for your computer.
