Stable, quiet operation.
Only carries a short 3-year warranty.
Currently running a RAID 0+1 config with four Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA2 250GB HDDs. Runs smooth, and I haven't had any issues. I use Seagate's SeaTools to run HDD diagnostics, as it supports SATA2 HDDs.

250GB's (a ton of space for me)
didn't work in my ASUS K8N mobo. apparently this HDD isnt compatible with that mobo. not just mine but ALL the ASUS K8N's out there.
didn't work with my ASUS K8N mobo and apparently isn't compatible with it. This made me quite angry and on top of that I also lost all of my data. I ended up buying a external hard drive case for it. Works fine now. still gets 4/5 stars. It was my mobo that was the problem.

Quiet, Fast, Maxtor reliabilty and excellent price!!!
Drive is so quiet you can't even hear it and really quick. Excellent hardrive for the price and NCIX.com has the fastest shipping i've ever seen. BC to ON next day and charged less than the competition. Have never had a problem with any Maxtor drives and don't expect I will with this one. 250G for around a $100 shipped, can't beat that!!!

Experience: 2 Weeks

Quiet, fast.
Runs very warm.
A nice fast quiet drive. I have an nVidia chipset, and have had no problems with the drive. It normally runs a little warm (40-45C), but I put a fan in from of it and it doesn't get above 35C at any time now.

Experience: 2 Days

Great price per gigabyte ratio, fast, quiet, easy to install.
Works great out of the box, quiet, fast, and has everything you can want from a hard drive. Definitely get this if your in the market for a new hard drive.

Experience: 4 Days

3 years warranty
Maxtor seems to be "in race" again with their hard drive. Thanks for the 16m cache and sata2. 250 gig is enough for many pple. The price is the reason i brought cause for the same price i prefere 5 years of warranty.

Experience: 1 Days

quiet , PRICE
none to date
bought this HD for my new gaming computer .. 69$ what a deal! it's running windows vista buiness edition like a charm. thank nicx!

Experience: 30 Days

Size. Maxtor. Price.
Cheap Maxtor HD. It's reliable, and should last years. I'm already looking at another one (especially as there's one in the weekly sales for $69). It could be bigger, but 250 GB is usually enough for most ppl.

Experience: 12 Months

Fast, cheap, plentiful drives. Can be hooked into RAID easily. Run fairly cool given sane case configurations.
Will likely require firmware update in anything but straight desktop configuration (such as hardware RAID).
I purchased 8 of these drives for use in a RAID array as a testing platform for high-performance database applications, connected into an LSI MegaRAID 300-8X SATA2 PCI-X card.

I've also purchased a half dozen or more for desktop use for friends and family.

While they appear to be functional in nearly all cases (even in nForce 4 motherboards,) the ones destined for RAID almost immediately began dropping randomly out of the arrays I'd configure.

After calling LSI, I was told to go bug Maxtor for firmware updates. My Firmwares were VA111630.

The first firmware update (to VA111670) showed similar issues: randomly dropping out of the arrays.

A second time, updating the Maxtor firmwares to VA111680 fixed my issue completely and I have been successfully using the drives in a high-performance array ever since.

Therefore, if I'd known then what I know now I would've given the drives five stars. The amount of effort I put into debugging the issue to narrow the problem down to the drives *in that specific configuration* was only worth it in the sense that it was an eye-opening learning experience.

Beware of using these drives in a hardware-assisted RAID configuration!

Experience: 6 Months

its big, and its cheap, and its sata2
I've got a few of these drives in raid 0 and its running nice and fast. The drives are Sata so its a lot less wires in the way, and the drives themselves are quiet.

Generally I'd recommend any SATA drives, but the cheapest ones are the better ones.. Its also a plus that there is no anoying rebates too.
