Experience: 7 Days

Long battery life
Good Keyboard
Build quality
Cpu power
I got this on sale to replace my old gateway netbook with a n450 CPU and its one of the best move i've done so far. Like i said, good battery life/build quality is great there's only 2 things i do not like wich is the touchpad and the cpu power...but for a student its the best bang for the buck

Experience: 2 Weeks

Great battery life, very light and portable
I use this for university and find it excellent. The long battery life and the light weight of the laptop makes it very portable.

Experience: 5 Days

Lightweight (mobile), responsive, quality construction, stylish,
Lacks optical disc drive, very cheap 500gb hdd, no possibility of increasing RAM over retail specs (max 4gb/1066MHz), low-clocked CPU, LED side-lit display; contrary to manufacturer specs,
This is not a workhorse. If you require a desktop replacement you may encounter disappointment with this unit.

Largely reminds me of the DELL Inspiron 700m I owned in 2005: Lightweight unit facilitating mobility/transportation; and though the hardware specs lack "robustness" the notebook functions responsively for basic computing needs.

This notebook is an excellent choice for students and business professionals seeking mobility at an excellent price point. ASUS has designed a stylish, well-constructed notebook that delivers a responsive computing experience at a price that won't break the bank; a welcome change from all the high-priced bogus hype that permeates the tech retail industry.

Highly recommend. Would buy again without hesitation.

Experience: 45 Days

Compact and lightweight
Nice fit and finish, and colour scheme
Spectacular battery life
Nice embedded keyboard
Screen brightness and colours
HDMI output
No DVD drive
No bluetooth (but added a USB nano and it works perfectly)
A fair amount of bloatware installed
Speakers are decent but not loud
Default power savings schemes are a bit too aggressive
No DVD drive
Our previous laptop was literally falling apart so we decided to get something affordable and portable. I was pleased to learn of the battery life on such a compact laptop, as this is something I value and the battery duration times were unheard of. Picked up this little beauty from NCIX and I haven't been disappointed, the battery does last forever. I guess to make sure your battery life is within the range of what they advertise the default power scheme will turn off the monitor or put the machine to sleep pretty much every time you run to the fridge for a drink, but even if you change those settings to something more usable the battery still goes on forever.

Style and ergonomic-wise, I think this laptop is great. I like the balance of black and silver and everything seems to fit together nicely; no ugly gaps or the like. The hinge is smooth for opening the display and provides nice viewing angles; haven't noticed any big issues with glare.

This is obviously not a hot rod, but if your needs are simplistic (internet, docs, watching videos, etc) it's just fine. I haven't tried the HDMI output, but I'm pleased it's there. Might try out Netflix output to my TV in the coming weeks. The keyboard or handrest never gets hot and it's never noisy either.

The touchpad is either love it or hate it. It uses the multitouch functions which is probably common on most new laptops, but the touchpad area is flush with the handrest below the keyboard. You can see where the touchpad is but there's no indentation. This is great for keeping dust and toast crumbs from getting down in there but we do see the odd instance where the cursor seems to jump around when not requested. I noticed (in the settings) there's some logic built into the touchpad to avoid false alarms but I don't think they're avoided all together. Perhaps this doesn't bother me too much because my old Dell laptop did this all the time, to the point where it seemed like the cursor was possessed.

This unit doesn't have a DVD drive which is both a pro and a con. I haven't missed it at all, but I did spend an extra $40 to get an external unit for those odd times where it's necessary. I love these new drives that get their power from USB, so quick to plug in.

ASUS put a bunch of programs on it, most of which I have no idea what they do. I also had to purge Office 2010, so you might have a bit of clean up to do if you want to keep things trim.

Overall though, I'm very pleased with this purchase and I would definitely look at ASUS again for a notebook. Compared to my experience with my past Dell, this thing is a godsend.

Experience: 2 Months

Very quiet hard drive. Nice, clicky chiclet-type keyboard. Nice dust-blocking SD reader insert. The trackpad is very receptive to multitouch commands. The trackpad itself was slightly sticky on first use but it soon started to become usable (definitely not a replacement for a mouse). CTRL key is in the very bottom-left corner of the keyboard, as it should be. The accidental damage warranty completed very quickly; I received confirmation in about 8 days after mailing via normal post. Very very quiet fan, and the exhaust is generally quite cool even when the computer is under high load. Incredible battery life. HDD/RAM covers are easy to remove.
Slightly thicker and heavier than similar CULV laptops. Trackpad has no delineation from palmrest, easy to run into with my thumb when typing. The glossy bezel makes the screen feel glossier than it already is. Sucky rocker button on the trackpad. Big translucent image overlay in the center of the screen when using the function keys. Lid and screen are flexy and can bend a bit. The keyboard can flex too, but I suspect that it's probably a removable flap. Fair bit of crapware pre-installed.
Let me reiterate: the power life is incredible. I'm a student and I'm able to use the laptop for 7 hours (on High Performance, with screen brightness varying between 0-60%). The obvious tradeoff is that the battery is relatively enormous (the laptop is less than 2 kgs, but the battery itself is about 0.5 kg). Personally, I think that's a tradeoff I'd gladly take for great battery life.

Splashtop turns on in only a few seconds, but it has limited use and it's locked at a very low res.

It's just me, but I don't like the black bezel/keys and gray body colour combo, and would have prefered an all-gray or all-black scheme instead.

Another weird thing is that the HDMI port is right next to a USB port, and when I first started using this laptop, I easily confused the two when I'm not looking.

The play/pause keys (via FN) only control Windows Media Player/Center by default, and I can't figure out how to change it.

Point is, this laptop is a wonderful low-voltage laptop/notebook that's not quite notebook or netbook for daily desktop use but not for big video editing/gaming use.

FYI, the palmrest does get warm, contrary to what the stickers on the laptop say. It's nothing serious, but it's noticeable.

Experience: 15 Days

Light, long battery life, keyboard with great touch
Shinny LCD, MS Office trial
If you want a real usable portable machine that can last for 8+ hours without plugging in and do not require a magnifier, this is for you. Good build quality, good keyboard size and usable touchpad ( I mean, there is no touchpad that can replace the good old mouse ).
Not the quickest and the fastest. Surf the web and do daily office work fine. 1080P playback no problem (get the right software!). Wish that it would have come with a protective sleeve...even an asus netbook has one!
If you are a serious gamer, you know this is not for you.
NCIX was quick in PM and delivery...excellent!

Experience: 30 Days

The Asus UL30VT A1 is a laptop that straddles the line between full-size notebooks and smaller netbooks. Its 13.3" widescreen display allows it to be significantly smaller and more compact than typical laptops, while providing more screen real-estate than sometimes-cramped netbooks.
The battery life lets you work all day away from an outlet, and the multiple graphics cards and power modes allow you to not sacrifice performance while you're plugged in.
This Asus laptop review covers the UL30VT A1, which has longer battery life than the original Asus UL30VT X1.
If you're in the market for a new laptop and like the idea of a netbook, but think you might be better off with a more capable, larger laptop, then check out the Asus UL30VT A1. Get the battery life and much of the portability of a netbook with the power and full-size keyboard of a typical laptop.

Experience: 2 Months

battery life
form factor
silent/virtually no heat
tad bit expensive considering its old tech
It's expensive but very good for basic use.
13.3 in is good for portability and gives enough resolution.
2 year warranty comes with asus brand-name.

Experience: 3 Weeks

Great battery life
No number pad
Great laptop for University, huge battery life, lasts easily 8-10 hours without having to cut features, which lets you not need to worry about charging it every chance you get.

Super light and thin, and performs well for Office and movies etc. Can also play SC2 on it on lowest settings but does lag a lot on customs when armies start to get pretty big, but being able to at least watch replays or play 1v1 is a huge plus for a laptop that wasn't designed for gaming.

Experience: 3 Weeks

portable, small and sleek
overheats too much
after a few weeks, i notice the system over heats than usual. i tried dusting but it doesnt work. i must say i will have to stick with a better notebook.

Comment: If you value performance over all else, you can find a faster machine. If small size and light weight matter, you can find one that’s more portable. And you can certainly find cheaper laptops. But the Asus UL30A delivers significantly better-than-netbook performance in a package that still weighs ju
